Has anyone else seen this? It's amazing. You can see any street in the world. Literally. Takes satellite pics.

    http://earth.google.com/

You need broadband though. I definitely recommend tho.

Microsoft launched their beta Virtual World a couple of days ago to compete with Google Earth. It's only North America though

my boss spent ages trying to figure out how to block the stream from the office as productivity has dropped considerably since i told everyone about it.

turns out it uses port 80 same as IE, so they can't do much about it, until someone smart enough tells him to block the IP address of the google earth server.

nobody's going to do that tho!

No, they scramble Area 51, the Whitehouse roof, and a few "gated communities", at least.

    "Gated communities"???

I hate the Ordinance Survey and their profiteering. That's why ourmaps suck and detailed gps map coverage is brutal.

This is a brilliant piece of kit. I can actually make out my house on it.

Google are gonna take over the world. Possibly in a good way. Like a really, really smart non-evil (I hope) Microsoft.

They have recently brought out Google Desktop Search and Google Web Accelerator (uses Google's huge cache of websites to speed up your surfing). There is also rumours that they will bring out a low-cost PC, Google ISP and Google's next project may be a web browser similar to Firefox. They have recently hired high-profile developers from Microsoft, Mozilla and Sun Microsystems.
The WHOIS information on www.gbrowser.com shows that Google registered it in 2004:

    Registrant:
    Google Inc.

So yeah, they probably will take over the world...
I'm not sure if that's good or bad...
