You'll have to be more specific. What do you by strongest? If you mean the most functional and effective, I'd say the culmination of boxing, wrestling, muay thai and brazilian jiu-jitsu - otherwise known as mixed martial arts.

thank you for talking back to me dlfneop

I am looking for the martial art that is strong. Like that can deal with multiple attackers. If i did karate and kung fu would that be strong like these mixed martial arts?

i'd recommend that you try a few out for yourself. colleges would be the best place to find a good selection of clubs in one location. everyone here will probably just recommend his or her own discipline. if you really want guidance from the boards, then as you try them out you could ask for the merits and flaws of each individual art from its practitioners.

No art will truly help you against multiple attackers. Running fast helps.. I don't study nor have I ever studied karate or kung fu to give my opinion on them.

A gi is a uniform used for training in jiu-jitsu, it's a japanese word for clothing. No-gi means no uniform.

taekwon-do,karate,kung fu,kyokoshinkai karate mite be what your looking for!
but the strongest martial art is dependant on the student as to how he /she is proficient at it!

    John,

I think tony actually speaks the truth. Mas Oyama used to fight bulls. I think he fought 50 of them.

Colum, has asked me in a message who zangief was. He's taking the piss..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,398 ✭✭✭columok

To the non- Street Fighter 2 literate...

Zangief is a bear like Russian wrestler from a popular 2-D fighting game from the early 90s.

    :)

Yes, and his spinning pile driver took off the most energy out of all character's moves.

Though it is famously hard to do. Also he is a ripoff of Mike Hagar from Final Fight (or maybe its the other way around... )

Whoaa, dlofnep, I have to disagree with your statement that "no art really will help"... when facing multiple opponents. Just to clarify, I don't think think it is easy to train or accomplish as anyone who has sparred for real even one on one knows how much you have you're hands full with just one opponent. Now obviously if you have the opportunity to run that is always the best option but if you don't what do you do.... bury your head in the sand, take a beating hoping they won't overdo it on you or hope someone will intervene.
We train in Atienza Kali which specialises in Mass Attack and train towards that type of encounter as well as others and after over twenty years training in a varity of different MA including MMA I find it offers excellant training for this type of encounter. It may not be everyones cup of tea but don't say there is no art that will really help.

I'm sorry Dave but if a couple of drunken lads come up to you and want you break your leg, there's not much you can do about it. Sure you can learn how to cover yourself to minimalise the damage but if they want to KO you, they will. If they want to hurt you, they will. Unless the art involves running or negotiating at it's highest degree, then in my opinion, it's worthless.
