Hi there. I use good form with everything I do in the gym. For months now I've had this niggling pain in the upper right hand side of my back, around the shoulder and lat. I can't quite place it. It comes and goes but recently it's been pretty bad. My shoulder on that side clicks and it feels like something is grinding there sometimes when I move it around. I really don't know who you go to see about something like this. My brother has back trouble and tells me cairopracters (sic) are a joke, that they just keep telling you to come back to them and it ends up costing you a fortune for nothing. My girlfriend said something about an orthopaedic doctor. How would I go about getting this resolved? Thanks :)

Thats mad! I was about to post the same thing! I have it too in my left shoulder, when I move it backwards it clicks like 4 or 5 times in succession, it doesnt really really hurt but it does get tense. If I place my hand on my shoulder when I do it you can really feel it. My brother is a surgeon adn I have said it to one or two gp's that I have seen. He said that it is probably something small, possibly "a dry" joint where the fluid in the joint is lacking causing the ball and socket to grind off eachother or it could be that the muscles there are tense so pulling the ball and socket too close to eachother. At any rate he said the best thing to do for this is to stretch it very well before training. It does pain me at other times, like after a long day etc or if Ive been standing alot, but stretching and massage are the best bet. I try to have one professional massage a month. The only other option is surgery with something like a 40% chance of helping it at all. Its just something you have to live with but if it ever gets worse you should see a physician.

Ps My shoulder is now sore from thingking about this!

A physio will give you a definite answer, although someone who has expertise in training can give you some pointers as it may be related to how you train.

May also be realted to performing exercises behind the neck e.g. lat pulldowns and shoulder presses.

Get it checked now or it could turn chronic
