Play money

I've been playing a bit on PokerStars and recently on PPP but i've only ever played for Play Money. It's fun and i've nothing to lose from it.

I've done quite well on PokerStars, i think i started with 1,000 or was it 2,000 and worked that up to almost 60,000.
I've played a few of the play money MTT's with 27 people and won a couple and finished in the money a few others.
I find the play to be really erratic with some people going all-in with complete rubbish and they'll call anything, which i've learned to exploit.
I try and play pretty tight for the most part.

I'm basically just wondering how this play money experience would translate to real money.

    Any thoughts?

    Killian

I hate to say it but pretty much 0. Play money and real money games are two different games entirely.

Play money is just so you can get used to playing, other than that its nothing like real money.

Other than recognising that unique 'boop' noise that Pokerstars makes when it's your turn, very little. :D

It has served it's purpose if you know the rules, the way the software works , hand ranking etc....

Now you start to learn. Invest in a couple of books as well.

Playing play-money SNG's can sometimes be ok...if you get a couple of people on the table who are like-minded and are trying to win sensibly. But yeah, the real advantage of play money is just to be introduced to the online poker environment.

if you want a bit more 'free' practice killion you might want to go to the freeroll tournaments in the Fitz, Merrion or Mayfair. Also, the online places also offer freeroll tournaments for real money prizes.

i've got a box of old matches which have a cool picture of Elvis on the front of the box. Even in the height of needing to light a cigarette and not having any other matches, i'll never use them. Some people do care about matches; don't be so glib!

The way i've been looking at it, perhaps mistakenly, is that people on the play money tables don't give a **** and will play with anything and generally won't be pushed off a pot or bluffed.
So if i'm able to win in these conditions i must be getting at least a good feel for the game.
Obviously my play would be affected by the possible loss of actual money.
I might throw 20 quid in and play the micro limits.

I'd be interested in trying the freeroll in the Fitz some time.

:D ,Elvis matches are kind of ok....we will let you away with having them, but if you have a Elvis jump suit well thats a whole different story and a bit freaky and Tom may ban you (and rightly so)
