Galway Thoughts

Having spent a little while looking at the Galway card here are my initial thoughts.

    5:00 Kinger Rocks WON

The transfer to fast ground has brought Kinger Rocks on a great deal, makes hurdling debut off a very nice weight. With Dermot Weld's record at Galway and ruby Walsh on board this looks like gving punters a nice start to the festival. The price is going quickly though, I got 9/4 a while ago, it's 7/4 now.

5:35 Rolling Home (EW) Would have been placed but for fall at last

Fresh from a comfortable win at Kilbeggan in his first race of the season the 8/1 price on Rolling Home looks a decent EW bet. Will have no ground problems and has Paul Carberry back from injury taking the ride. I have a feeling that the 13lb rise for favourite Thunder Road may be it's undoing and would rate Zeroberto as main danger.

    6:10 Baynes Cross Unplaced

Dermot Weld can continue his excellent record in this race with Baynes Cross. Has ran respectably in his 3 races to date including when finishing ahead of tonights favourite Sandon City at Leopardstown. A form line through De Roberto also gives him the edge on Galantas.

    6:50 Athlumney Lad 2nd

The step up in trip looks ideal for Athlumney lad this evening. Races off a handicap mark that he has won from before. In an amatuers riders race like this the benefit of having somebody like Nina Carberry riding cannot be understated.

    8:00 Dafarabad Win / Noend EW Unplaced/Won

After the weekend they've just had who could bet against the Oxx / Kinane partnership at the moment. Dafarabad started the season in great style with a win Naas when he just got up close home leaving the impression the extra 2 Furlongs tonight will suit. Has already finished ahead of tonights favourite Streets of Gold last year and at around 5/1 looks a very good bet.

In the same race a small each way bet on Noend at around 12/1 looks decent value. Has been placed on 6 of 8 starts. His only run over tonights trip was 3rd of 22 in an ultra competitive Curragh handicap. Looks sure to be at least placed.

I have Kinger Rocks (7/4) myself on a double with Thunder Road (7/2).
    Ruby Walsh is on both....

Kinger Rocks definitely looks like a good pick, and is still trading at 3.0 on betfair, I've just had a punt. Fingers crossed.

What about Zeroberto with Barry Geragthy on board for the 5.35?

Lowlander looks good at 10-1 for the 6.50.

I stated in my original thread that I thought main Zeroberto would be the danger to my selection Rolling Home. It's definitely got a great chance, better than Thunder Road IMO, the reason I went for Rolling Home over Zeroberto is I felt at 10/1 it was a good value each way bet, especially with the first 4 being placed.

Lowlander although not one I'd fancy also has a chance, has one of the better amateurs in Derek O'Connor riding, however has a bit to find with Baron De Feypo on Leopardstown running. My selection is Atlumney Lad with Baron De Feypo my 2nd choice at a nice price of around 12/1.

what do people make of sheer tenby? according to the paper, he's supposed to be good value for an each way bet.

It's a wide open race Vorbis, however I would rate Sheer Tenby's a place chance at best. He's well drawn tonight and actually won this race a few years back and should like the ground and has a decent record over 6 furlongs. On the downside his jockey has not had a single winner from 39 rides this year and the horse has never won off a handicap mark this high, at 8 years old he is unlikely to have much improvement left in him.

My choice in the race would be Major Title with Mick Kinane on board, he is also well drawn and has run some really good races this season. Also keep on eye on the reserve Absolute Image, if he gets into the race he'll probably be the favourite and would have a great chance.

thanks for that, a girl at work's neighbour is in a syndicate that owns Sheer Tenby so I'm half obligated to bet on it!

Galway 8.00 - Torn between Mutadarek and Homegrown, think Homegrown could shade based on the firm going and his light weight...any thoughts folks?

Mutaderek looks fairly well supported on betfair at the moment, so if you're following the money...

Son of a b'tch went with Mutadarek at 4/1 ignoring my hunch, Homegrown strolled it at 8/1..........gutted
