How highly or not do you rate him....?I think he has great potential and could get a big brake soon. But he needs to learn alot from his last fight,he needs to work on his movement and hold his guard up alot more. The last round he fought made for great TV but I would say his trainer was not to happy, but fair play to him he came through it.Also his experience in the US can only be a good thing, not just his fights over there but also been around Freddie Roach's gym.

So to sum up what I think (and I am no expert) he is the best fighter we have in this country and with a bit of hard work he should give us a few big fight nights.

i would say him and andy lee from limerick are the two best fighters in ireland now. Lee will be turning pro very soon.

Maybe in a few years dunne will be the new steve collins, i still remember the benn and eubank fights in the pub packed to the rafters. Those were the days

I rate him pretty highly at the minute. He's showing real potential and it's great that he's giving Ireland something to cheer about. The experience he's had in America is a solid start to his career and I hope he makes full use of his talent.

Any news on when he's fighting again?

I met him a few weeks ago in Trinity College and he seems like a nice fella. Therefore, I rate him highly. Go Dunne Go!

Bernard was a fantastic amateur and was never beaten by an Irishman...that really is some achievement. Even Carruth can't boast that. As regards the pro ranks, he just doesn't cut it. He has bags of confidence but I don't see him making a real impact, maybe a British Title shot if he is actually eligible to fight for that..but world title...NO WAY......Remember he is close to if not 25 now. Most of the lighter weight fighters thru history have won their world titles at 21-24 and are moving up in weight and adding extra belts.........he still has only 16 or 17 fights to his name and he looked very ropey in his last victory against a journeyman....I'm not trying to beat up on the guy, but lets be honest.........he's not world class by any stretch of the imagination

I'd agree with that, he is good but his last fight in the national arena should have been stopped he ran around the ring not throwing anything trying to run down the clock. He obviousley got the home fighter advantage and he did do well early in the fight but none the less if the fight were in a neutral venue it would have been stopped.

Irelands best prospect is not Dunne , but actually John Duddy who has faught all his fights in America . He's 11-0-0 win 10 KO's  , he's been TKO'ing people for fun and defeated a fighter 16-0-0 (Leonard Pierre) . He's 26(just last month) but has been fighting professionaly for less than two years .

We will be hearing a lot more about him in the coming year and I think he could get a world title shot within two years .

Dunne I beleive is at European level , and would have a decent chance against the European Super Bantamweight champ Esham Pickering (who he is looking to fight)

With Lee going to turn pro aswell it looks like the future of Irish boxing is very bright .

Heh, I've only heard of Duddy a few times before...didn't know he was Irish. Have any of his fights been televised here in Ireland? Must keep an eye out for him on Channel 5's 'ESPN fight of the week'.

I am sure RTE will jump on the bandwagon if he keeps on winning, its typical of there approach to boxing (and other sports) they put nothing into the grass routes and then lead the charge with "another great Irish sporting moment"

    ps:sorry rant over.

He's Irish alright, from Derry, only moved over to the States to turn pro. Read quite a bit about him, but haven't had a chance to watch him yet. He's 26, had an excellent career as an amatuer, and has knocked out 8 of his first 11 opponents. After reading an interview with him he sounds very decent and down to earth:

    http://www.talkingboxing.com/interviews/2005/duddyinterview.html

He could be a big prospect.

In terms of Bernard Dunne, I've watched a lot of his training videos from the Wild Card gym in L.A., and there's no doubt he has a lot of talent. Freddie Roach was always on at him that he leaves his guard down too low, unnecessarily, it's ok to do that to try to entice the opponent and create an opening, but not all the time. His last fight I think showed that he has to show a bit more maturity if he's to get past the tougher oppenents, and that he can't just rely on his "phantom punch".

Its actually 1 Ko , 9 TKO's and 1 UD and my source is Boxrec so I am 99.999% likely to be correct .

Ok If I see him in town I'll walk up to him and say " a guy on the internet told me you supported liverpool fc, and as a result, i don't like you."

I'm sure he'll beat my face in.

He was in the same gym as the Pac-Man, but I seriously doubt he knocked him out. He said he held his own. There's a couple of training videos on the net if you search around, sparring against a guy called The Ghost who in my opinion got the better of him, albeit Dunne was only back from holidays.

Dunne was certainly dissapointing in his last fight the ref should have really called it a knockdown. A long way to go before a nicky cook fight methinks....

He's good but he's not that good. Was defo given the benefit of the doubt in that last round and, I agree, he wouldn't have been if he was away (or even in a neutral) venue.

I'd watch and support him but, to be honest, I don't think he's world class and can't really see him becoming so.

That said, Collins was a relatively late bloomer though wasn't he? 30 or so when he got the title?

    CMON DUNNER!!

I can't see Dunne beating the Elite or even winning the European title as long as Cook has it, but he could be involved in some good scraps.

That said, Pacman would decapitate him

heard today on newstalk that he will be fighting in the national arena in october against an unamed opponnent. how much are tickets likely to be anyone know?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭Kevin_rc_ie

    unamed opponnent

an unarmed opponent? does that mean the dude won't have a gun, or no arms. i didn't think bd was that bad he'd have to fight some dude with out any arms.

He's looking for the Super Bantamweight title (European) off Esham Pickering .
Dunne does look fairly small so I don't think it would be too hard for him to lose the few pounds .
