I'm heading over to the states for a holiday in a while. I'll be visiting various places including boston and new york...

Now I might be interested in picking up a buget laptop and/or mp3 player (iaudio x5) ...

My question is where's the best place to pick some cheap gear up... and is there ay chance I could order from an online website and get them to deliver to a hotel?

Any1 have any experience doing this?

i'm pretty sure most won't deliver to a hotel address or po box number. Warrenty is the main issue.

There is a good comp shop in New york called JR or something like that. Tis been mentioned loads of times on boards before. i'm sure someone will remember the name properly.

I'm taking a trip to NYC in Dec myself and I'm gonna be heading to BH Photo Video to buy a Canon Digital SLR EOS 20D - nice. I'll be posting my receipts and manuals home from NY incase I get called by customs - "Nope, I've had this camera for ages"

I think that fry's outpost ship to hotel addresses and their prices simply cannot be beaten tbh.

Just removed anything you buy from its packaging, bring any manuals or warranty/registration documents you need with you. Dump the boxes stryofoam etc. Then dirty them up a bit add the occasional coffee rings a little vaseline and dust can age thing good. Then if asked tell them whatever it is came with you from here or wherever your based. Anyway there is a nothing to declare to exit and the last time i travelled that was unmanned. carry anything valuable in your carry on luggage unless you've got good travel insurance.

If that's http://www.outpost.com, then their prices are way above the prices from www.bhphotovideo.com

Only I know you better, I'd think you were taking the piss aaf. :)

I just checked there, $250 v's $170 for the 9600XT. Similar differences on the 9800 pro (more after rebate).

Can you give me an example? I didn't go digging any further than that tbh.

I'd check the offers section on outpost too. Decent enough.

Didn't do too much digging myself but compared a Canon EOS 20D on both sites and BH Photo Video was almost $200 cheaper. I think you'd need to check both sites if you're looking for something as one item might be dearer on one site and cheaper on the other, while another item might be vice versa.

Ah, ok, gotcha. Looks like they're more for camera stuff, while fry's is more for computer components.
