    Hey..

Iv multiple episodes of a TV series liying around on my PC - converted to AVI to save space. Now, I want to convert them to DVD and place them on a few disks. Thing is I want to reduce the amount of disk usage. There are about 26 episodes and I want to place them on DVD disks to play on my DVD Player. Does anyone know of any free software that can place these onto disks? DVDShrink wont.

    Thanks..

You need to convert them to vob files so... I use WinAVI, you can download it no bother and google the cra*k, simple as it gets...

Converting isnt the problem. Its placing those several episodes on disks. Id say I could fit at least 2 on one disk but with DVDShrink I can only place one (doesnt allow adding extra)

Once they're converted just use Nero to put them on the disc... When you convert one episode what size is the vob file? I put 6 episodes of Joey (avi was 175MB) on each single layer disc and the quality was perfect, about to do it with 24 series 4 and will only out 4 to a disc (avi is 358MB)

Nero isnt free ;) Ill convert one

Well DVDShrink won't actually burn to a disc unless Nero is installed :D All it'll do is convert/compress the files

No but you can download the latest one as a 30 day free trial which works.

I have them as DivX, I put them on a DVD+RW and watch them on a Philips 5100 DivX/DVD player. I get about 10 epsiodes or more on a single DVDRW. When a DivX player is 50-90 its worth buying one.

The only thing I can think of is authoring the VOB files to a dvdr and then use shrink...might loose quality doing it like that though. Or maybe it mightn't compress the file :o
I can fit 3 and a bit hours of VOB converted from avi onto a disc that plays in a standard player; that's all any dvd will play for...divx players are dirt cheap and prolly only gonna get cheaper...get one of those if you want to watch longer discs.

Hmm... I'm not sure that there are any free MPEG-2 encoders out there - even if there are, I'm not sure what you could use to make the VOBs, etc.

Consider plumping for a DivX/XVid-capable DVD player; I've got a Philips DVP630, and despite a few limitations, it's brilliant. I think I paid E99 for it some time last year; I'm sure there are cheaper players you can pick up that'll do the same thing. At ~350MB per episode, you're looking at twelve or thirteen eps per single-layer disc.

    Just a thought...

OK well after all I didnt run out on my Demo. Still have a few days left, and I know a guy who bought it so I may use his PC for burning aswel.

Couldnt figure out where in NeroBurningRom I could add two lots of VOB files?? Only let me add one.

But how? Cause DVD Shrink only lets me add the one lot. Iv added Episode 1 VOB, then added Episode 2 Vob -- but all it did was replace Episode 1?!

I used a combination of TMPEGEnc and Nandub to make VCD's about a year ago and had excellent results. Added several episodes/movies onto one disc and created menus using Nero. You don't need more than 350MB per episode, TMPEGEnc will let you reduce the size further.

If you use VSO Divx2DVD then you can add multiple source files in to be converted. I'm doing this right now with The Shield and Dr Who. Just select three or four divx source files, by using the CTRL key to select more than one file. When you convert, it'll put them all into one Video_TS folder which you can burn to DVD, or shrink if it's too big. It should easily fit 4 files on one DVD though. Works for me anyway.

VSO Divx2DVD is not free anymore (well the one your on about, allowing multiple files to be converted) and the trial edition places "This is a trial version of VSO DivXtoDVD" on each converted file (on screen)..

Nero vision express will squeez alot of episodes onto a DVD by reducing the bitrate of the dvd, tho quality will drastically decrease but i got 12 episodes of the simpsons on a dvd.

Hey Sully man, looks like the free stuff just ain't gonna cut it. The easiest way is to spring the 25 euro for WinAVI or similar program, and use this with Nero or download the cra*ks, PROBLEM SOLVED, you'll be up and going in 10 minutes and the quality is savage. Either that or do as suggested and get a DVD playerthat plays DivX files, probably the faster solution and will cost just slightly more...

Aldi had a divx dvd player for 50 squid last week

D.I.K.O is certianly the way to go espec the free way to go. You can fit the whole season of lost (hdtv avis) on three dvds (bout 8-9 eps per disc) with no visual loss or so i am told ;)

This is the site one would follow to get said results http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=263309 and thats using fancy menu which certainly make the dvd.

Thats a pretty cool link, I'll def be giving that a go, although this DVDlab pro ain't free, I'll try and find a way around it. My main problem with the way I'm currently doing it is that all the episodess are put on back to back, i.e. watch the first 2 episodes, eject the DVD, go back to watching it later and I have to skip through each track to get to where I was, what a pain....

Putting in even a simple menu to choose the episode would be the job...

Yeah i followed that guide to perfect results, as for dvd-lab theres a trial in it for a few days plus theres also other great progs that get the job done.

    check your pm ;)

No, the one I downloaded was a beta but it allowed multiple files (even though the readme says it doesn't) and it didn't put any watermark on the output.

DIKO looks a nicer solution though, must give that a try myself.
