There was talk last year that the upcoming hurricane seasons would be as busy if not busier than the ones experienced in the 1930s and 1940s. I dont know if it is a cyclical thing with hurricane seasons. but the storms in the 30s and 40s were not named.

I wonder will they get as far as the W storm, and what happens if they run out of names.

anyhow, Gert is now dissapating over the mountains of centra Mexico and the NHC have issued their last advisory for the storm.

According to Metcheck, they're named Alpha, Beta, Gamma and so on..

so you are saying that it will be like Arlene Alpha, Bret Alpha, Cindy Alpha and so on?

No, just hurricane Alpha, hurricane Beta. Very original
From Metcheck.com: Each year, a total of 21 names are made available for the systems. The last time all 21 names were used was in 1933, 21 has never been matched or exceeded since.

If it is, then the Greek alphabet is used, with the first being Hurricane Alpha, Hurricane Beta and so on. The chance of this is happening is slim, however with a third of the names gone, and the fact we are only just coming up to a third of the way through the season, the record breaking season of 2005 could break a few more records.
