    Hi,

Just need some advice with regards to some of the parts I'm buying here. I just put this list together earlier on. I'm not sure about a lot of the parts, just heard a couple of things about them. And to be honest, it's costing a lot more than expected. I want it, basically, for gaming. Battlefield 2 etc.

    List of Items

    Your help is much apprectiated,

    Thanks.

only thing I would change is the cd-rom/dvd. Can't really see a reason for having two seperate drives these days as most combi drives will work fine.
Other than that maybe your main processor is a bit slow considering current market but your graphics card should compensate for that.

It'll be good for graphics but sound could be a bit on the down side unless you get an mb with an intel based chip set. via chipsets, which are normally used with AMD processors are notorious problematic for sound.

All in all though quite a reasonable set up.

That seems a bit expensive alright! I put together a similar spec to that for E825, although i have a AMD3000 and i'm using on board sound. Plus i managed to pick up a Asus 256mb Graphics Card for only E60. :-) But besides from that everything you want i got for E500 cheaper

    Thanks for the replies.

How did you get it cheaper? Am I using things surplus to requirements?

I have a merchants account with a Irish computer company, so i get a few things at cost price. The price i quoted also includes a 17inch TFT monitor...handy or what?

So what use is that to me?

I still feel I'm spending too much, but I can't decide where to start cutting corners...

Here is what i suggest you cut.

    (1) CPU down to a 3200+ (- €82)
    Feck all performance hit

    (2) Ram Get a gig of twinmos instead of crucial (-€33)
Twinmoss stuff is good and has a slightly faster cas rating of 2.5

    (3)cut the cdrom (- €23)

    (4)Get a 6600GT (- €47)
Performs more or less as fast as a x800

    (5)Get the audigy 2 non THX (- €20)
feck all difference between the thx and non thx

Thats €205 less than your spec.

Also do you have a PSU? The case you speced does not come with one.

Would suggest an antec sonata, which comes with a dacent 380W psu for €120.

Have used that for building a friends pc. Sweet case at a good price.

    I'd lose these components mate

1)Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS, Bulk, PCI Soundcard, THX, 7.1, 24-bit/192KHz

You've already got onboard sound so it's a bit of a fifth wheel really

2)The separate dvd/cd units are too pricey, get yourself a combi-unit

3)The processor seems a lot more expensive than mine and it has a smaller l2 cache, but i guess as you want a socket 939 motherboard you don't have much choice.

Should save you a few pound

Smeggle, the processor is 64-bit and whilst it's clocking at 2.2ghz the throughput is far greater than any 32-bit processor. For instance my copy of counter strike pics up my AMD-64 2.4ghz as clocking at 4.2ghz in 32-bit mode.

If you do go for the X800, get the Sapphire one that Komplett has, as it has GDDR3 ram rather than just the DDR of the powercolor one. It also has full versions of Splinter cell pandora tomorrow and prince of persia sands of time thrown in.
