Has anyone some decent links towards healthy recipes for vegetarians?

My gf and I are going to the gym more but she is beginning to worry about 'carbs' (listening to too much atkins fanatics at work) and how to cut down on them.

Unfortunately as a vegi no protein and no carbs would mean pretty much no food! :(

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could point me towards good websites dealing with the issue. Cheers.

Ignore the fad diets (Atkins etc) at best they're unproven, at worst they're dangerous. If you eat properly (3/4 times day) and exercise you'll lose weight. As a veggie myself I found it difficult (too lazy) to get enough protein to gain muscle so I take whey protein as a supplement.

Its the calorie content that matters. carbohydrates are GOOD for you - just not when you eat too much of them. Also contrary to popular belief - vegetarians get a lot of protein - just a different form. If you think logically about it - cows and sheep are full of protein and they got it from somewhere - grass!

Pulses such as beans are a great source of protein.

Thanks guys this is exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. Googling for this stuff seems to be torture since the real info is mixed with all sorts of crap about fad diets and selling something.

Just have a carb cut off point. Mine is 6pm - after this I take in no more carbs, this way I will have energy for the rest of the day but by morning my glycogen is depleted - I won't put on fat and if I do cardio in the mrning I'll burn fat. If you don't lose enough weight, make the cut off point an hour earlier etc.

Also, tell her to start pulse feeding - eating smaller meals more often. This way, a protein shake could be an evening meal.

Regardless, you said you were a vegetarian, there are only trace usable carbs in veggies and these aren't too bad, even after 6pm. PM me if interested in a whey protein supplement.

The Blazing salads cook book which is available in their shop in the city centre(dublin) is excellent.
Get your GF to focus on how her energy levels are and fitness. Eat nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, yoghurt etc to make meals filling and interesting.

Many thanks for the advice folks. We're implimenting the 6pm cut-off as of today.

Her energy levels are a bit of a prob no doubt which is beginning to improve a little as we get into regular long walks and I hope to get us back to the gym proper soon too.

Obviously diet has to do with energy levels too so I'll keep an eye on that. Cheers all :)
