Asus 6800TD LE Unlocked Pipelines

I've been playing FarCry on a 9800 Pro 128MB recently and really enjoying the experiance. It looked lovely and ran mostly great, struggling at the odd part here and there. Well I went out and bought an Asus 6800TD LE there the other day for €159 and unlocked the extra pipelines on it. WOW- what a difference it makes. The game runs much much smoother and I was able to max out the res and the rendering on it.
As I only have an AthlonXP 2400 I didn't know if the card would make that much of a difference, with the CPU being the bottleneck, but wow it kicks ass and it was cheap as chips too. I'm going 64 soon so just needed something to keep me ticking over. I didn't want to plump for the full GT as it is only a stop gap.

Well just wanted to share that with you all. I thought the card might not be great, but for so little money and after unlocking it I was really surprised at the performance increase I gained!

i got the same card yesterday, unlocked.......
however im getting texture glitches in battlefield 2 and CS: source....
may have to turn 1 of the pipes off.

but yes performance wise the card is fairly good, i got a respectable 3975 on 3dmark 2005

    Hey Ho Matt,

Yeah I was dead chuffed, so much increase for so little moola. I did have an issue with crap textures in Farcry and then no textures, but downloading the patch soon sorted this out.

which forceware drivers are you using, i take it this is liam? :P

its not so much a glitch as its like a divx flickering with jpeg artifacts.
very weird, come to think of it i dont think its stress on the card as i turned BF2 up to 1600x1200 with max settings and i didnt lose any performance but the weird textures were still there

Indeed it is. Well I'm not too sure exactly which version they are, but I downloaded the drivers on Wednesday, so I'd imagine they are still the current one.

Hmnn well I can't say for sure what that might be, but you might have to really play around with the pipeline settings to find something that works properly for you. I know it's not always going to work 100% straight off, it does take some fine tuning.

Of course, my knowledge of these things isn't the best despite the fact that with a beard and glasses I look like the uber geek. Brutal's more yer man if ya have a word with him (yeah I know he's away for a few days- can ya wait that long?!)

PS - You can thank me later for ordering it in for you at such a magnificent price! A BIG brown envelope will suffice nicely.

Really? Hmnn I'll have to give that a go so. You were using a Ti4400 right? How did you find that card when u were in windows looking at images and generally doing stuff?
I found the 9800 was alot better for 2D work. The 6800 is really 'rough' with 2D work. Images don't look as smooth as I'd like.

i havent really tried it out much yet as i was banging my head off the wall with a stupidly easy network problem last night.

im going to re-install photoshop tonight and see how i get on, i need to test my new mouse too which is a dream :P

    I had a 6800LE a few months back.

    Worst. card. ever.

My 9800 pro went back in my machine after about 3 weeks of putting up with the 6800's bullsh!t. Unlocked the pipes, got graphical errors all over the shop, playing it witrh pipes locked was horrendous, i couldnt even play battlefield vietnam without it lagging all over the place and crashing left, right and center. Sh!tty ass woeful cards and since getting my x800 pro, im never buying another nvidia card

if you start to get gfx glitches just unlock one at a time, thanks to the op for this, i was wondering if you could unlock pipelines with this card, i'll prolly go for it soon as an upgrade to my 9800pro

edit:// btw where did you get the card and is this it

Not a bad deal that isn't although i hear they can be horrendous ! How many Pipe's have they got straight away anyway ? Does the LE come with 8 Pipe's, I doubt its 12 as a 6800 vanilla come's with 12 And u can unlock them all to 16 To become a 6800GT.

it comes with 12 aswell, but different pipes are locked than on the 6800 standard

yes thats the card, i bought mine in peats. honestly ive had no trouble with the card so far so i think your experience is singular deadwing.

maybe, card couldve just been borked. I was jsut in a rage because my supposed 'upgrade' to the 6800le couldnt even play battlefield vietnam as well as my 9800pro, it was ridiculous.

    Oui, c'est ridicule!!!

And the moral of this story is that you shouldnt get a card because you assume it will be a good overclocker.

hey ar any of u guys selling those 9800pro's???

I guess with any mass produced product there are always going to be a few troublesome cards! As with jaggeh, I've unlocked the extra pipelines in mine and it's running like a dream, much much better than with the 9800 Pro I had. I've turned EVERYTHING up to the max in Far Cry and it's running as smooth as could be, and I've only got an AthlonXP 2400, so guess the card is taking alot of the load.

Sorry shanethemofo, I already sold my 9800 to pay for the 6800. If you look in the computer parts for sale forum there always seems to be a 9800 Pro at least once a week for a very reasonable price.

i have a 4200 lying around, it wont play BF2 but it will play CS a dream with theright processor

i was planning on selling it for 30 quid.

The 4200 only plays CS like a dream because its doing DX 8.1 though right ?
