Networking has to be set up on both computers. Run the networking wizard on both & give them the same settings & workgroup. Set up sharing on the folders you wish to share. When done (you may need to reboot) right click on start/explore goto my network places/entire network/microsoft windows network/mshome(or whatever you named your work group). When you open MSHome you should see whatever PCs are on your network

i have replied a buckett load of these threads before use the search function,

Try the following anyway right click my computer -
Properties,Computer name - Click "Change" enter WORKGROUP if you want
make sure both the desktop and laptop are set this way.(You will need to reboot after this on both!!! )

Go to network connections / Right click / Properties / Tcp Ip / Properties / General / Advanced / Winns / Enable netbios over tcp ip.

    Do this on both -

When done go to network places - select view workgroup computers.

Create a share on both systems and happy copying,

If any errors regarding permissions let me know.

    (Xp should work fine)

Not the best way of doing it can be a bit flaky have had some bad experiences doing it this way.

Give it a shot if it does work do it the way i posted never had any problems doing it that way :)
