I've got a couple of avis that I want to watch on the telly via the dvd player. Can I burn them to cd in some way, shape or form, or do I have to put them on a dvd, cos they're all around the 700MB mark and I don'twant to waste a dvd when a cd will do. Also, if I do put them on a dvd, can I put two or three movies on the one disc?

Sort me out, step by step if you could.

I don't know whatcodec was used for the avis, but I spose I can find out tonightwhen I get home.
I understand I have to convert them to VOB files, and then burn them onto a dvd.
What (free) software should I use to convert them?

Cheers folks for any & all help.

If you have an AVI playing DVD -player then you're in luck. Converting AVIs to MPEGs is a real pain.

If you want to put them onto CD you'd have to convert them to Video CD (VCD) or Super Video CD (SVCD). SVCDs can have decent quality if you encode them well. Theres another standard called KVCD, but that's a bit harder to do if you're new to the whole video transcoding thing.

A program called TMPGEnc will let you convert to MPEG-2, which is compatible with ur DVD player (same format as SVCD and DVD). Depending on your player you might be able to get away with just converting to the right kind of MPEG-2 video and sticking it onto a cd with no fancy authoring or anything

What about the question of burning 2 files onto the same DVD? If I were to do that would I need to make a menu or would it see the 2 files as separate chapters on the DVD?

Why not put them all together in windows movie maker or something like it and then convert the created file to dvd
