i was at the curragh races yesterday and happened to be at the parade ring while the ladies best dress competition was on, I'm just curious to know if there are any rules or are there any general guidelines that the judges follow, because it seems to me that it a roll of a dice if a person wins or not... can anyone shed…

Pretty much, I'd say. That races look doesn't appeal at all to me personally.
