    Hi,
I'm still due a sizeable amount of money back that was paid in emergency tax when I started with my old employer.
They were totally incompetant and had no HR dept or contact I could deal with.... I had to resign as they refused to sort many issues on my contract (really dodgy... I've considered taking further action, but just need time to get over the rough patch).
Anyway, I'm thinking of taking some time off... possibly do some travelling.
Is there anyway I can now get the money due straight from the tax office? even though I'm not currently employed?
If I do go travelling, I would like this money back into my own cashflow as soon as possible.

    thanks for any info

Yeah just drop into the tax office (it's in some side-street of O'Connell st) and fill out a form... just explain your situation and they'll tell you what you need to fill out.
Bring anything you think you'll need, RSI number, P45 maybe... it's been 5 years since I've had to do this, so I can't remember the specifics.
Got 2 grand back though, which was nice.

    Cheers for that Donkey :)

You wouldn;t remember the time frame of getting your money back by any chance?
Need to make a few plans based on getting it back, and dont fancy taking out loans.

Hmm, I can't remember how long it took... I vaguely recall it being pretty fast.
Well, at least I don't remember thinking "Gah, I wish they'd hurry up with this...".
A lot can change in 5 years aswell, maybe they take more or less time since I've done it... they should be able to tell you how long to expect to wait.

I got my tax back within a week about a year ago. A few days actually, but i was working at the time, and got it as a #refund on my next pay slip. Should be pretty quick, i find them a sound bunch in the tax office
