Yes just heard that on Sky News, believed to have been a female suicide bomber. Very sad news for one Irish family.

kusadasi is a very popular resort for the Irish, no doubt there will be lots of holidays cancelled this year.

Irish student killed in Turkish blast

    16 July 2005 16:49

It has been confirmed that an Irish student was among five people killed in what is thought to have been a suicide bomb attack in Turkey this morning. A British tourist was also killed.

The bomb exploded on a minibus in the tourist resort of Kusadasi while it was ferrying tourists to a local beach.

The young woman's identity has not yet been released.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs has condemned the attack and has called on Turkish authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Dermot Ahern also extended his deepest sympathies to the victim's family.

The Taoiseach has also condemned the attack, saying once such terrorists have no place in society.

Bertie Ahern said his thoughts and prayers are with those caught up in the atrocity.

Meanwhile, the Government has warned all Irish citizens in Turkey or those planning to travel there to exercise caution and to be particularly vigilant at all times.

A spokesperson for Sunworld, the tour operator with which the victim travelled, has said its flight to Turkey will depart at the usual time from Dublin tonight.

However, she said that any intending travellers who may wish to cancel this weekend may do so without incurring costs.

These bombings are really starting to get to me. The f*ckers are killing the general public, the innocent. WTF is wrong with these people, why do they target defenseless people, what is going on in their puny little brains. If they have a problem with politician’s policies, why not try to assassinate them or target the government in general, instead of taking it out on people that have absolutely nothing to do with the decisions the leaders make

Far easier to attack the general public and also, they hope to make the electorates put pressures on their governments this way.

Its simply easier to target civilians........

They took the life of an innocent young girl who had just finished her leaving cert, may the people behind this attack be publicy tortured and executed.

i think these guys are really wrong. BUT they are doing this because they are trying to get there point across that stop killing innocent people in muslim countries like iraq etc. its all because of that Fu***er bush,he is the cause to all this.if 30 people die in london just imagine the 100's dying everyday in iraq etc.so i also think this is wrong.
something should be done asap before there are many more attacks
    this is my own opinion

This wasnt necessarily an Al-Q job. Quite a few groups have bombed Turky in the last few years. In fact there is a good chance it was Kurds...

You brought it in to the thread, despite the the odds being that the Turky bomb has noting to do with Iraq. The Brits and US may have killed alot during the invasion, daya to day they dont kill as many as the insurgents do. The insurgents arn't inflicting any major causlties on either the Brits or the US but they are making **** out of the civilian population. 30 kids killed in a bombing the other day and a hell of alot more injured.

    Remember -

We are continuously telling arabs that our way of govenment is better: democracy is government representing the people.

So no wonder they target innocent civilians - we are telling them it's the same as attacking the government.

These fvckers are at war with not just blair and bush and their armies but the entire non koran reading non towel head world. Their doctrine was written by a guy called Qutb in an egyptian jail in the 50's. The believe freedom and liberty to r!de and drink and do whatever you want to do is evil and their path to heaven is by killing all these infidels.
Holiday resorts are full of these debaunchers so they're a perfect place to strike.
You can argue madrid and london and this attack are reprisals for iraq but what was 9 11 a reprisal for?? And the other al quiada attacks before that?
truth is there is nothing the western world could do to stop these attacks by pulling out of any war. The only way to stop them is to become a Koran reader and believer. Adhere to it like the taliban, Force your women into subservient obediance. Cover them up. Dark ages all over again
And they believe they are doing gods work here on earth by killing the revelers, they believe they are gone straight to heaven for their work.
Their is no way of stopping them until all the leaders are all dead or better still locked up. dont make martyrs of them. let them rot in silence

I agree. There used to be a sign in "The Sun" newsroom.
"Make it Fast, Make it accurate".

Real journalism works the other way round. Posting the latest half-rumour as fast as you can type only encourages intemperate speculation.

RIP all of those who died. :(

Ah, you might as well. the chances of it happening again in the same place are minimal.

Do you think that the US and other western countries made no imposition on the Middle East before 11th September 2001?
I'm sure many of these people want to see all non-Islamic followers dead but their main support comes from people who don't like seeing us 'sinners' meddle in their affairs on their land.

Fair play to them for forgiving the perpetrators and I hope that something good might come from this as Tara Whelan's family wanted. But how do we help achieve that?
