Stop me if I got the wrong handle here - I assume you are sending manual faxes on the same line as you modem in a Small Business environment. I'm not sure what you do if you are sending faxes direct from a PC.

We used to have I think it was a Toshiba (?) 5100P. We were initially using a ordinary PTSN line, but then moved building and all lines were ISDN (3 pairs = 6 lines). 1 fax, 6 phone extensions, 6 PCs on the LAN, with space for expansion.

The way I configured it was through the line port (bypass line) on a (initally external modem) Terminal Adaptor.

Telephone handset - optional (line port) -> fax machine -> Terminal Adaptor (line port) -> RJ45 / CAT5 wall socket -> patch panel -> eircom ISDN junction box -> the world.

I'm not sure we were able to use fax and modem at the same time, but i think we could.

Try to get one organisation to install you entire system. I had to deal with eircom, the electrician (did the LAN wiring and terminations), the telphone switch / handset supplier, alarm installer, alarm monitoring service, fax supplier and of PC / TA supplier (I sent 2 TAs back to them and went to another source).

Until a substantial number of fax machines are digital, digital fax machines are of less use for a Small Business, as the digital machine has to interrogate the analogue machine for a longer period of time. Apparently Digital to Digital is HOT.

Its actually is for sending faxes from the PC. The 5100P is hooked into the machine via the parallel port. Its got both Laser Printing and Fax capabilities. When you install it you get 2 new printers, Fax-thru and samsung 5100p, we can share the printing facilities from it over the network. but are unable to use the fax part. We were thinking of being able to share the com port its installed on across the network but havent a clue how. Thanks for your help on that one Victor, just isnt what we're after. ta.

    Two options:

    1. Use a parallel to Ethernet box. HP ones are the best, but a ***** to configure.

    2. Plug the Printer/Fax into the parallel port of each machine, installing the full software for fax thru, and printer drivers. Then plug it back into the machine you want to use it with, share it, and alter the printer properties on each machine to "show" them where the printer has gone.

It worked for my HP 3100 all-in-one and others.

Question: is what you actually need a Fax Modem, not a Fax Machine? i.e. you would up-load the fax by direct link.
