I will soon have a spare PIII450 with 192MB RAM and i think 10 gigs of hard drive space.

The main use I intend to make of it is a file & print server, http & ftp server, mail server, and possibly DHCP if anyone can suggest why it might be better at that than my router currently is. Oh, and possibly a DVD-burner server if there's any good easy to use software that i can use via ssh or http. I will also want Gnome or KDE or both on it, just to toy with cos i've never used either very much.

Based on the specs and its mission, can anyone suggest a good distribution to install on this machine when it becomes available?

    Thanks!

I'd probally go with debian, certainly easily provides all the services you want

O and using the box instead of your router entirely might be the way to go , gives alot of nice customisation for routing and firewalling.(and ipv6 tunnels like not to be nat'd where possible)

though i must admit my playing with ubuntu is limited as of yet.........

Ubuntu's the man. It's a debian based distro.
