Yahoo! email account hacked

My old Yahoo! email account was hacked into a few weeks back...partly my own fault as the password wasn't hard to figure out

I lost old sentimental emails, files in my Briefcase and other stuff too.

The problem was I couldn't remember what location and postcode I used when I registered about 9 years ago, so I couldn't change back to my own password. The customer services were not very understanding so I had to get a new Yahoo ID. As you can imagine this was very annoying.

Has this happened to anyone else at all?

I logged into my Yahoo mail only to find two emails from them confirming my 'change of password'. Strange that I could log in under the one I'd always had, but anyways. I sent them an email asking what this was about, got no reply. Was logged in to my Yahoo messenger when I got someone pming me asking me to 'give back' my ID to their buddy. Turns out that their friend had been given account details with my ID name. They changed my profile details, some woman living in the states, put up her age, pic...all the usual stuff. The person PMing me was alright about it when I explained that I'd had the ID for years and that it must have been hacked without my knowing. I've reset my password and changed all my profile back to my own details, but if that person hadn't sent me the message I'd still never know that someone else had access to my account. What's worse is that the other 'me' had my own yahoo email account listed as their own. I don't know if she was able to access the emails or not, but you'd think she'd cop on that it was a stolen ID. No reply from Yahoo to date. Lil Buggahs!
