    Hey All,

Just looking for a decent all round LCD monitor, 15"/17", preferably with an edge in gaming (refresh rate, colours).

    Unobtrusive design is favoured.

Price range from 300 to 450 euro. Somewhat flexible, the cheaper the better (though not at the expense of quality).

I cant find any decent/current reviews, so im hoping for personal experience here. If Wizzard or Khannie are floating around here id appreciate your input.

    Thanks lads.

I bought one of these just a few days ago:
    http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/hardware/monitorsanddisplays/productView.htm?quicklinx=3p3s

It's really good and has just 12ms liquid crystal response time.
Dabs.com (the best I've found) are great and delivery to Ireland is very cheap and takes about 48 hours.

This bad boy cost me €220.

The Acer brand is quite generic although they are a huge, well-respected company. If you're not sure about the Acer logo, go for the LG or the Samsung 17" ers. Samsung are definitely the best LCDs available.

    I bought one of these
    http://www.sony.ie/view/ShowProduct.action?product=SDM-HS75P&site=odw_en_IE&category=Flatpanel+LCD

Its the best quality 17"lcd available at the moment and I like it a lot.
But it aint cheap, you could have a decent 19" for the same money.

General Problem with high response times is that you get colour washout compared with a crt.
If you want to spend less & have decent quality I've read that samsung is the way to go.

Weird I was just going to say the same one. I have one of those myself and it's just beautiful if you're willing to treat yourself. It's screen is something else because of sony's X black. Have a look at one in a shop if you can get a chance cuz they're just lovely. Sony basically took their onyx blackscreen technology from their Vaio laptop range and introduced them to their Monitor range. Lovely! It'll set you back around 450 quid now but worth every penny. Stick with the 17" tho cuz the 19 inchers response times are very very nasty if you don't spend crazy money on a large high spec samsung or dell.

Be Careful because there are GOOD 16/8ms response times and there are BAD 16/8 ms response times. The 19" Sony's are 16ms but a bad one and they ghost like ****. They apparently used a cheaper screen on them than the 17" models. So be sure you see one in operation before you buy one.

    Ry

The X-Blacks are indeed damn nice... Look like a mini plasma!

I was thinking more than likely go for one of the Samsung 17/19" jobs. They seem to get good press, I dont know what the story is regarding "dead pixels" in Ireland.

However, i might keep my dell CRT for a bit, and when either i make some money/prices drop, go and order the dell 19" TV LCD yoke. That way i cud move the xbox upstairs next to the broadband without hogging the telly downstairs, and avoid turning the eircom modem into a cheap "trip-wire" that only my parents seem vulnerable to.

Any sceal on those dell TVs? I dont know anyone who has bought one, possibly the 800 euro price tag. Not great for a monitor, but when u ad in the tv function it makes a little sense.
