Wright here is my question. I Have broadband in my house, (my dads) eircom or should i say scarecom , any way we got a wirless connection for up in my room . it works fine but i only get its not the full power of the broad band 54mbps and down stairs it 100mbps .can i not get that power up in my room . I know if both on line then the power would be less but when i am just using it the max i get is 54. we got the wireless in mapplens . is there some thing better that we can get so that i get more power ?????

The pc downstairs must be connected to the wireless router via a cable. It doesn't matter anyway because 54Mbps is far faster than your eircom dsl connection.

Why the obsession with power? If your router is downstairs then the reciever upstairs is not going to recieve the signal at full strength. The range on a wireless router is not very large. Anyway, the full speed of 802.11G is 54Mbps so you are connected at full speed. There is no broadband at 54Mbps, this is the routers max speed. Your broadband will be at a max of 2Mbps.

You must have your downstairs PC connected via ethernet cable giving you the 100Mbps connection. It's not going to make the internet any faster though.

If you intend to lay Cat5e...make sure you dont get it from a shop for €1 a metre as thats a RIP-OFF.
I get mine for €0.25 a metre and RJ-45 sockets for less than €10 each.
I'm not a contractor/etectrician and pay full VAT on those prices.

Paying any more is money down the drain!
