I'm setting up a Wifi network in an old house with thick walls. Does anyone have any experience of which Wifi gear/antenna's are best for covering large areas with thick walls?

I have bought nothing yet so I can buy all the one brand and use their turbo/nitro/super proprietory 802.11g plus protocol they all seem to have.

    Any suggestions?

    cheers!

    J

From experience sometimes old thick concrete walls work better than modern stud partition/plaster board walls.

A Wireless LAN was put into a college res a couple of years ago. No prob in the old wing which had thick walls but in the brand new building they had to double the number of access points and use repeaters as the walls there ,while thin, had a metal mesh or frame to them that weakened signal.

So prehaps a normal AP will do you. Maybe borrow one of a mate and see how it works?
