I've played it a few times, back in the day. Pretty decent spin off, has to be said. I prefer that scale engagements. More fun when you get to have personal attributes. Shame nobody round here plays any more... May have to resurrect it though, now that you bring it to mind...

yeah i used to play it myself as the saying goes " back in the day "

long running campaigns were pretty good till your gang got ridiculous ie evey ganger has umpteen billion skills that you forget about in the fight frown.gif

I had a pretty good Orlock gang - about 13 members. My brother's Goliath gang was well good - the smaller game suited him more and he's a right wh00re for remembering which of my guys was afraid of one of his as a result of a beating he got.

Excellent game - I'm assuming that Mordheim is the same except in Warhammer?

    RPG horror stories:
I had a guy and his just new girlfriend play in a group and it de-evolved into a fight between the two because she wouldn't sleep with him when they reached the inn. She was all "We discussed this before" and he's "It's only a game, not real!".

I remember playing this game with a few mates, and our gangs got REALLY big .. like 25-30 in each. At that stage all our lads were pretty much souped up to the max and engagements became ridiculous 80%+ accuracy except in extreme cases etc. We decided that any games we'd play we would just give each man a certain amount of upgrades to get him off the can't hit sheet newbie phase, and the games became alot of fun. The only problem there was that there were no campaigns and nothing to aim for other than beatin the other gangs. A really good game though ... especially if u can customise ure own scenery.

I never really played campaigns long enough to get stupid like that, I was more into bog-standard 40k at the time - I was writing a codex.

Campaigns are pretty good if they last about 5-8 games, say, then it get get much more tedious.

the game was unbalanced in the kind of characters it produced.a few in house rules were necessary for prolonged campaigns.
only the leader could have major hero stats the rest were limited to champion stats, wounds made more fatal ect.
We also speeded up targeting by making all cover -1 to hit regardless of wether it was hard or soft.Ended a lot of arguements over how much of a mini was visible. And gave juves a chance if they got up close and personal.

Its a shame GW stopped supporting the product shortly after Outlanders shipped,i guess sales for necromunder were lower than expected. The models were definatly amongst the best games workshop have produced...Ratskins anybody?

With a bit of tweaking you could run pretty good campaigns,we had a local garrison of imperial guard investigating a genestealer cult.I am currently thinking of adapting the realms of chaos books to necromunder, something the scavie gangs hinted at.

BTW the goliaths looked way cooler with thier mohicans cut down to rogue trooper length.

They haven't exactly stopped supporting it - it's in with the realms of Fanatic now along with Warmaster, Battlefleet Gothic and so on.

I have never had any gangs get larger than a dozen fighters. I wonder if some played with different rules or incorrectly. ;-) I remember one time I thought the credits you made in your territories went directly into one's stash and instead of having it reduced by the income table. This, I think, would enable huge gangs to happen.

I also don't know what unbalance another person referred to here.

Necromunda is preferable to WH40K: cheaper, quicker, and a story develops from the gangs as a whole and individual gangers too. It makes for much more interesting reminscenes where you are quipping: "Remember when Deadhead Jack.." then "Remember when my imperial guard formation.." They also gain injuries, skills, and advancements as time goes on.

The rulebook for it is now available free to download from Specialist Games - Necromunda . It is still supported but by a division of Games Workshop instead.

A huge chunk of my summer has been sucked into Necromunda already.

If you have a problem finding players, you can always hook up with WH40K players and let them use their figures until they get proper ones (be it through GW or another line of models).

Ah, Necromunda, my blackhole of time.
