AK On the button

Was dealt AK on the button last thursday in the Fitz freeroll, two pretty tight players before me, one went all in, the second called...I just got a..."feeling" and laid down my AK, happy too when one flipped bullets and the other Kings.

Was I right to lay down or would AK on the button be an automatic call? Chances of both players to my right having that hand were pretty slim...

    Any thoughts?

    D...

Yep, Fitz freeroll and tight players don't belong in the same sentence...

Depends what stage of the tournament it was at. If it was still in the rebuy stage and you hadn't accumulated a lot of chips it would be an autocall for me.

If it was a good bit into the tournament and you would have enough chips left to play with if you lost, I'd probably still call here. figuring if I lost I could play my way back up to that chip level.

It would also depend on which player had the most chips, would the side pot have been significant enough if you won it on your own? At the end of the day you're getting great odds for your hand and while you may be behind one of the hands I think I'd of found it very hard to fold here...doesn't mean I'm right by the way (certainly not in this instance) but it wouldn't be the worst call I've ever made

There were only two tables left and about 8 at each table...
KK all in was pretty shortstacked, AA who called was decently stacked, I was about 5K in chips with the blinds at 400/800.

Funny cos i was in the same position last night in an STT and I folded AK on the button, man I would've cleaned up!!

if you have less than ten bb's and you get ak i for one am not folding pre flop, I mean its not like you can afford to wait for aces

even though I knew thatone of 'em were packing bullets?

if your good enough to 'know' he had bullets why ask the question? I mean if you know he had bullets and still ask should i play my ak, what were you looking for, opinions or a pat on the back for folding lol

Fine, so know was too strong a word, but from the way he had been playing earlier, I had a fairly decent hunch.
And i'm very much a novice, hence th reason for the original post.

HJ has been educating me about AK lately :) and while up until recently I would have had a lot of trouble laying that hand down I think it's a pretty easy fold in the situation you describe. Firstly, you ideally want to be the aggressor with AK...calling one raise in front of you with it is one thing, calling a raise and a flat call from a big stack is asking for trouble. Even though you're relatively shortstacked, you will find better places to get your money in.
