Just popped out for lunch to a Garage on the Tuam road in Galway. On my way back to work noticed the traffic was stopped heading out the N17. Noticed a load of builders stood on the wall opposite looking down at what I assumed was an accident. It was actually a bunch of lads beating the shíte out of each other outside the Galway Plate (for those that know it). It appeared at one stage like on of them was trying to run over another with his car. Did anyone see it? What kind of a fúcking country is this when this craic is happening at 1pm in the day?

I rang them. Said they had received loads of calls. Squad cars on there way.

Unfortunately I work the other side of town, in Westside.

    Tell us more!

Were they workers? Teenagers? How many is a load?

    Tell us all!

They were either (building) workers or knackers (sorry about the pc). Saw at least 4 involved. Only saw a few secs though. Could have been a road rage incident. Take a stroll down. I'm sure you'll get there before the Garda's

I'd say it was a road rage thing. The car park in the Galway Plate was always kind of tight...

    **** you lump.

Just heard the local radio. 20 knackers armed with hatchets and knives. One taken to hospital. No arrests made

Big enough fight for you lump?

Hatchets and knives?! Dammit, I was just about to ask why no one intervened to break it up... There's my answer right there. Crap!

"20 knackers armed with hatchets and knives"

too much detail, everyone knows fighting traavellers come with knives and hatchets as standard

Wow, would loved to have seen that....

They are all talk mostly though, I remember years ago near my grandmothers house a huge confrontation taking place, all you could see was knackers walking across the fields with shovels and axes and everything.

    No one was hurt. :p

Still though, could have gotten nasty!

And Lump - you didn't write John at the end of your statement. Congratulations.

There was today. One of the lads in work saw it as well. Mentioned one of them had blood flowing over his face whilst on the mobile phone. I wonder was he ringing for an ambulance or for reinforcements?

i remember another "big fight" a few years back involving knackers in the westside pitches but nothing happened, we (cycling past) were v disappointed!
