Missing FTA channels

    Hey There,
I got a new subscription to Sky last friday. It appears that the FTA channels are not present. I do not have BBC3, BBC4, CBBC, BBC News24, etc.

Here's what I've done so far:
    1. Using sky's technical support, downloaded the latest software to my digibox.
    2. Re-ran the installer's menu channell scan function.

I've called sky, and they mentioned something about an e-mail to be sent internally which should ensure that they show up after 24 hours - I re-ran the channel scan ater 24 hours, but they are still not showing up. They've booked an engineer call for next week, but I suspect that its something not correctly provisioned on my account or something.
Any of the installers who use this list go any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Dermot.

These channels do not show up on the EPG, you have to add them as extra channels or other channels I think it's called.

    Hi,
BBC3, 4, News 24 and Cbeebies, Cbbc are not on the irish EPG. you have
to manualy tune them via "Other Channels". Freq: 10.773 H Symbol 22.00
    Fec 5/6.

These channels must be added using the "add channels" function. Whoever you spoke to at sky was talking BS to be truthful.

..they told me that BBC3 should be on ch 105 for example. They knew I was calling fro ROI.
I've nothing at 105-108, which, according to Sky customer support should be present.

Their marketing literature quite clearly shows BBC3, etc. as part of the standard package, so you'd think they'd at least give you instructions on tuning them.

Is it possible that you guy's information is out of date (with obvious apologies if not)?

I hate sky for not putting BBC3 ,4 etc on the Irish EPG. I have Sky +
and cannot record BBC3 programmes. :(

No we are never wrong :) Honestly sky get this stuff wrong all the time. As for BBC3 being part of the standard package this is false advertising only BBC 1 and
2 are part of the skly package in ROI

On the english EPG BBC 3 is on 115 BBC 4 on 116. 105 is channel 5.

Trust Us! We are more up to date than Sky.

Fair enough guys, you certainly seem to know your stuff. Don't think I'll call of the engineer though! If this annoys enough installers, perhaps sky will eventually get their act together regarding putting this on the EPG for ROI.
(See I'm talking like a pro already!)

No chance of that, sky never listened to retailers or installers

That's highly odd. I wonder what made them think that BBC 3 was on 105. If they'd said it was on 115, I would just assume they think we all have same EPG listings. But 105?

Do they know something we don't (what with subscription hikes to appear soon etc)?

BTW, if you heed my previous sentence, you're mad! :D If BBC 3 was ever to appear on Irish EPG, I'd expect it to be on 115, same as UK as there's no regional variation.

Why aren't BBC3 etc on the EPG?

Do BBC pay $ky to put BBC1 and BBC2 on the Irish EPG? and refuse to pay Sky to put BBC3 on the EPG?

None of it makes sense to me, I pay Sky for a service, they already have the EPG info for the UK, it would cost them next to nothing to put them on the Irish EPG.

Other channels are a complete waste of time for Sky+ as was mentioned above.

Apparently Sky pay the BBC for the right to put BBC1 & 2 on the Irish EPG.
They are not prepared to pay them for BBC3 & 4 as nobody seems to care.

BBC pay sky something incredible to get on the EPG, that is why ITV havn't surfaced on the Irish EPG yet, it's too expensive.

I must admit I'm none the wiser, anymore than why ITV/C4 are not available. If NTL/chorus can give them to their viewers then why can't sky ... it can't be a rights issue.

I thought that TV companies paid Sky to get on the EPG. Does each company make 2 payments (one for UK one for Ireland)?. If so I'd have thought that we'd see a few companies not bothering to pay for the Irish EPG.

Then why are they on the Irish epg at all?, they have no advertisments, so paying Sky would result in a loss for them, not forgetting they have ro responsibility to provide their channels to the rupublic.

Sky want people to subscribe to their services, and without BBC1/2, on the epg, they would lose customers, as the channels are easily available on other platforms, hence SKy pay the BBC for placement on the Irish epg, while it's the opposite story on the UK epg.

maybe if sky were smart and got ch4, 5 and itv aswell they would get more subscribers, ive known people who go with ntl because of these channels

I dont see the problem with not having them available in ireland on satellite, since its on cable
