Parents are on way back from Oz.

Heading to Bangkok tomorrow. I told them to have a look out for the PSP over there and see how much it costs.

I'm assuming they would be selling the Japanese version over there so this should work over here as well shouldn’t it i.e. right region for games and films?

Or should I just wait for the Irish one to come out in Sept?

Also I asked to have a look out for a 1GB memory stick duo. There should be no issues with that working over here should there?

Also any one know any good places in Bangkok where my parents might get to find a cheap psp and memory stick?

The games aren't region locked, so you don't need to worry about that. Japan is the same region as us for the movie UMD's though.

The memory sticks should work anywhere.

So I cpuld get mu sister in America to buy games for me and get her to bring them back and there would be no problem?

Was gona get her to bring back as psp for me but then I read that it doesnt play the UMD movies for here so didnt bother asking her.

Might get her to get a few games do

Yep. I have a Japanese PSP and it plays both US and Japanese games no problem.

As for the UMD movies. I don't really see a big point in them. If you have a 1gb memory stick you can just rip your DVDs onto the PSP and watch them that way.

Also you can bet that the selection of UMD movies available here won't be as good as in the US, and they'll also be alot more expensive.

Yeah that’s why I wanted to get the 1GB memory stick. If seen it on sale here for €130 so I reckon I can get it a lot cheaper abroad.

As long as you own the copy there is no issue in ripping it to the memory stick is there?

As regards power adaptors is it just simply getting Jap-EU plug or is there transformers and all sorts to worry about?

    What about guarantee?

If you can avoid the PSP Licensing and Copyright Protection Officers that regularly patrol your area you should be fine.

Haha.. yes. A friend of mine's brother is a PSP Licensing and Copyright Protection Officer and he usually tips me off when they are coming to patrol my area.

Those memory stick duos are holding their value everywhere...might get them a few quid cheaper in Bangkok...get em just the same price on eBay though I'd imagine.
No worries on the power thing...just use a compliant lead; the little transformer works on 100/220.
Guarantee goes to Sony directly, unless you want to fly back out there if something goes wrong...

I thought with the rip of culture we have here that it might be cheaper to buy else where and if it is cheaper then I'll buy it.

So if I do have a problem all I have to do is drop it in to Sony Ireland and they'll cover it?

Sony usual are good. I've a sony hifi and md deck for years and not had one problem with it. Parents have had a tv since 98 and no problems there either. Sony maybe expensice but you get what you pay for
