confused box and card

    Hello guys.
    Got a bit of a problem with my sky box and my ftv card.
    Basically I got a ftv card recently and it works fine in my sky box.
    However I also had a second sky box which I got from a friend about 12 months ago which one of his tenants had left behind. When I put this ftv card into this box nothing happens and when I check the system details the box does not seem to recognise the card also the box does not clear some off the fta channels e.g. sky news but does clear others e.g. itv news channel.
    Now I have tried to down load the latest software but still no good. Another problem is even when I plugged the box in for the first time after the 12 months or so the epg read 101 bbc1 102 bbc2 106 sky one and so on this should not happen as it was previously an Irish subscription.
    The people at sky were no help totally confused as usual telling me to check my scart connection. I have tried leaving the card in the box overnight but nothing.Also is it possible to transfer my subscription card from my existing grundig to a Panasonic. Could anyone shed some light or give me an answer as im totally at a loss as to the cause.

    Firstly Sky news will work without any card.
    So, as for why it's not coming in on this second box?, I can only guess that the satellite is mis-aligned.

    Although it's hard to understand why the card would work in one box and not the other, your message seems to be pointing to the fact that it's old software.
    This is all I can think of.

    Power it off at the mains, leave it off for 2 mins, power it on while holding down the back up button on the box itself and allow it to update.

    Now, recently, with the current brand new software rollout taking incredibly long to get to everyone and with forced downloading not working to bring it down for people who don't have it, it is possible that your box is in limbo land, i.e. the 12 months you can guarantee it wasn't active and the possibility that it could be out of use for longer could suggest that it can't work until the new software comes down to it naturally.
    This is just a guess.

    no the dish is perfectly aligned some channels work itv news but some others dont sky news. i have been told that the software is out of date so i will wait to get the latest software and then see if it will work.
