    hi,
ive never used slackware but usually an install follows these three steps.

    1. configure (run as './configure' in the source root dir)
This script tests your system for libraries etc and creates the make file.

    2. make (not always necessary i dont think)
This will compile the program for the current user.

    3. make install
This has to be run as root and installs a program for the use of all users.

If your 'make world' is the same as 'make install' then just make sure youve run ./configure before hand.

Of course i could be completely wrong as ive never used slack or compiled X.
