I'm using KMail as my email client. Does anybody know how to fix the "Relaying Prohibited" error message for any email program? Its really annoying! I'm connecting to a POP3 account. Any tips would be appreciated!

Are you using the correct outgoing mailserver ie. your ISPs?

Yeah, my incoming mail server is the same as my outgoing and my outgoing doesn't require (or accept) authentication. I've had the problem in Windows before but I can't remember how I solved it.

I'm guessing that what's happened here is that you were with one ISP, say eircom, and you get and send your email through them. You've since switched to a new ISP but still want the eircom email ? Eircom, or whoevers, SMTP server will only let people on their network send email, you need to find out what the SMTP server for you current ISP is and set that as your outgoing mail server. Leave your incoming one the same.

Yeah I've got the incoming the same as the outgoing, but I can't figure whats wrong with it. My windows mail settings are the same as my linux settings, but I just can't figure it out. I thought that maybe its just a problem with Kmail and it not being able to support my smtp server. Could it be that the smtp is expecting a certain hostname/ip from my computer and its getting different one because I'm using linux?

I don't think it would look at the hostname, I think it uses the IP address to determine if you're on their network or not, but I don't see why that would be any different in linux, either way it should be assigned one by your ISP. I don't know KMail but any mail client should work the same way, just to check though maybe you could try outlook express or something else just to see ?

Who is your ISP? What outgoing mail server are you using? Perhaps its an ISP specific issue? Are you dial-up or broadband?

I've the same problem - Relaying denied, IP name possibly forged.
I changed ISPs the other day and can't connect to either my new or old email account.

Who are you trying to use?

A relaying denied error is usually due to either not sending the SMTP authentication OR not popping before relaying

I switched from one Dutch provider to another.
I've changed SMTP authentication to Automatic now (it was None). What does popping before relaying mean and how would I turn it on?

I got most of it fixed. By activating SMTP authentication for both accounts in the Outgoing preferences, and using my new login. passsword and mailserver fro both accounts I can now receive mail sent to both my old and new addresses. I can't on the other hand send messages from my old account, wither I use the old or new mail server and account details in its Outgoing preferences.
