i just don't know how you can play limit :)

    that's horrible.

honestly not being sarky but what possible advantage is there over NL? even if you play well/tight/whatever, you still cant prtoect your hand or work out accurate implied pot odds....

i've only played it live once and won some money but didn't feel at all comfortable doing it, constantly feeling on the back foot rather than on the front foot as in NL.

    funny ol game.

It's hands like this that make limit hold'em great and terrible at the same time.

I played low stakes limit on 'Stars when I busted from Empire twice not knowing anything about poker. When I started playing .01/.02 limit, it thought me alot about the mechanics of the game very quickly. Thats the good thing about limit IMO. It forces you to deal with how vulnerable different hands can be, the importance of narrowing the field, and so on. With high stakes limit, true it can be hella-frustrating when you are drawn out as shown above, but the thing is, if you are beating the game (unlike Nicky - joke!), it's very satisfying because you know you are playing good poker. In limit you have to learn how to extract the most value from every hand you play - and all decisions are based almost purely on +EV/-EV, rather than opponents - thus you need a very sound knowledge of the game of poker. As far as I know, most internet pros play limit.

Couldnt agree more cianos. Limit is a very different game to nl as its almost purely about extracting as much value as possible from hands so moves such as check raising or betting flush draws for value become very important. also if i was playing for a living i would definately play limit. dont think id be able for the wild swings of nl. but maybe im just a big girls blouse. :)

My main problem with limit is when I get the nuts I can't clean someone out, unlike the low stakes NL cash games where someone is always ready and willing to give me all their cash.
I've read that 2.5xBB per hour is an excellent rate in limit games but (on the small stakes at least) NL games I think a much higher rate can be achieved. The mediocre players pay a much larger price for their mistakes.
