I just read on www.metalhammer.co.uk that their Golden Gods award show was on last night on ITV1 at midnight....pitty I didn't read that news yesterday..
Anyone catch it? Or anyone know if it's being repeated? Sounded interesting.

I had an idea it was being shown last night but I wasn't that bothered about seeing it. The lineup didn't interest me that much. Good mag though...

i missed Dragonforce (the only reason I watched it), ive never heard Nightwish before but I was very disappointed by their performance.

Aye, Anthrax playing Caught in a Mosh and Indians was the highlight , but Dragonforce were pretty good also, can't remember what song they played.

Oh, watching as the pit went old skool circle style when anthrax went on :D

I checked it out cause im gonna go see BFMV in October in Manchester. It was good, a little bit of a farce cause obviously no one who doesnt turn up gets awards, but all in all it was alright on the live performances front. Theres a whole thing about it in this months Metal Hammer. Im sad they didnt have Velvet Revolver at it, especially considering they gave them Album of the Year 2004!

There's a 2-sided DVD with the latest Metal Hammer magazine. It features the nominees though the footage isn't from the GG gig. Maybe they'll covermount that on a disc next issue.. There was apparently a lot of booing for some bands like Lost Prophets and Ville Valo.

Dont tell me Trivium were at it.Metal Hammer must be really selling- out now.:(

Ha Ha. Nightwish won the best NEWCOMER. Metal Hammer knows its stuff.

Herman Li (Dragonforce) won the Dimebag Darrell Award.

No disrespect to Dimebag, but I ****ing hate all this "Dimebag is a legend" bull**** now that he's dead.

Why not name an award after him when he is alive?

You can't do that! What about Sam Maguire and Liam McCarthy? I don't see a George Best or Diego Maradona award, do you?

The only way an award can be named after someone or something alive is if its a sponsor, IMO.

Still, I believe it is unfair. Herman Li for example is better than Dimebag, yet he has no award.

Oooh, carefull there, them's fightin' words!

Herman's a phenominal guitarist altogether, and one cool guy, but you're just opening yourself up for a swarm of Dimefans.

I know, its so annoying. DImebag was a 'standard' metal guitarist, but peeps like Dave Mustaine would still beat his ass.

    Pfft, Marty Friedman tbh.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Ahhhh come on now, in fairness, the Dime thing is getting a bit stupid but, make no mistake, he was a ****ing incredible guitarist. The only one really of his ilk to play without a rhythm guitarist as backup and he sacrificed the **** aspect of his playing to take Pantera where they needed to go. He should be ranked with the greats for sure, remember he was asked to join Megadeth before Marty Friedman was ;)

ya he was damn good(but there are better out there)but dying does not make him better no matter what people may think ;)

True, but the award is a tribute to him and his achievements, I doubt you'll find anyone worthy of receiving the award would begrude him that.

oh no i think the award is a good dealio ,
dime is a good guy :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 77 ✭✭Mist

Lets not go so far as to call him a good guy. No one here knew him personally, and it was said he was a racist so....

Dime fans can say what they like to me, I really don't care, all i'm doing is giving my opinion.

By whom? Or are you just making assumptions based on his guitar with the dixie flag painted on it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 77 ✭✭Mist

    Ha!! I don't make assumptions.

i read it somewhere. If i remember where I shall inform you Doctor J.

Wow, well if you read it somewhere, it must be true.

Also, you ARE making assumptions there. You assume that whatever you read was true, and that if what you read is making assumptions, you're making an assumption by proxy.

I think it's a damn shame some folks are ready and eager to believe the worst about people they don't know, based purely on some ****ty article they "read somewhere" and then spread it around without knowing the facts at all. It speaks volumes about their character :(

Fair enough if you think there's far better than him out there (I think he was one of the best, far better than Mustaine in reply to one of the posts).
    But:

It's not about how good he was, it's a mark of respect.

(I think he was one of the best, far better than Mustaine in reply to one of the posts).

aha, aha, thats so dumb. Give the she-wolf solo and spin, and, infact all of rude awakening and we'll see what you think then.
