Battery Conditioner?

    Boarders,

Unfortunately, I don't get as much opportunity as I'd like to take the car out for a run (I commute on a motorbike). Off and on, I have been irritated by problems getting it started. I have had a few things looked at / replaced that might have been the cause, but still the problem persists.

A recent trawl on the Net has urged me to consiser a Battery Conditioner. A device that you connect up to the battery and leave it connected, while its parked up, to keep the charge good.

Anyone any experience of such items? Any advice on what and where to buy?

    thanks in advance

I use an optimate III for my motorbike, and its very handy. I think I paid around £30 for it. Im sure it would perfectly on a car because they are both 12V. It couldnt be easier to connect.

Not sure if this is the same thing but you can buy a car battery charger for less than €30 and leave your battery charging when you're not using it. Keeps it fully charged for when you need it.

If there's any kind of battery drain in your car then it's invaluable.

Any motor store should have a bunch of them.

I dont think its safe to run a normal battery charger constantly, the Optimate (http://www.optimate.co.uk/) is a trickle charger specifically designed to leave connected. After reading the site Im not 100% if it is suitable for cars, but I could be wrong.

Be aware that some aftermarket electronic ignitions do not like battery chargers.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was away on holiday there, and surprisingly the car started without issue when I got back!

I'll start with buying a new battery, as I know that it is at least 2 years old, probably more. If the problem still persists, I 'll follow through with the "conditioner". I'm selling the car, and I'd just like to be able to sell it with "no known problems". A car not starting would be an embarrassment...
