Before anyone panics and thinks that something has happened ... it hasn't (I think :) )

I'm just wondering... it would be terribly easy to plan and execute a strike on Dublin. A group of 5 or 6 dedicated people could easily come up with an efficient way of levelling OConnell street, destroying Henry street during peak shopping times, or even Grafton street during lunch on a sunning day (ALWAYS packed)

Does anyone know what effective measures are in place to prevent (unlikely...) or minimise damage to the country's capital? Or for that matter, anywhere in the country?

Purely hypothetical situation here, and if mods deem this thread to be poo i'll live with the deletion decision

I think any speculation at this point and time is going to get certain government bodies having a looksee at who you are.

If thats true and they have nothing to do with protecting the city from threat then they are ****ing eejits. Panicking people uneccessarily so they can practise.

I'd say the prime target would be the IFSC.

Possibly - but it should also be a time for certain bodies to have a look at what _WE_ have in place, should such an event happen here.

Just trying to stimulate a discussion is all

Totally agree. Shouldnt be flying that low and that often around the city if that is the case

What National Memorial day this weekend?

July 12th? That's for those wierdo Nordies.

It's not Paddy's day, anniversary of the Easter Rising, All Saints Day, All Souls Day, or Anniversary of win over England in Stuttgart.

    So what is it?

What's the next step up from Yellowy Green? "Guinness Terror Alert?"
"Now boys, you get yerselves into the depths of the closest pub and hide there..."

Out of date iodine tablets are about the height of it.

Oh, and for good measure, JIHAD.

    Hi, FBI! :)

Dublin is not well defended at all. We would be at the mercy of a terrorist attack. In fact, it wouldn't be too difficult to wipe out the leading ministers in the governemnt since our Taoiseach doesn't even have decent security around him when he's out and about.

It's tme to have a big rethink on our defence systems.

Now where did I put them iodine tablets ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,994 ✭✭✭ambro25

I'm in D6 and I must admit that 9/11 crossed my mind a short while back...was nearly expecting the 'bang' shortly after the overhead pass. What a day to be doing this! F***ing idiotic eejits!

    Hi, FBI! :)
    nice :D

the IFSC also crossed my mind - as did destroying the walls on either side of the Liffey from Heuston to Custom's House.
Not that that means that I'm thinking about doing it - they're just very possible avenues of attack. Think of the carnage... and think of how our defense system can prevent them.

    or not.

let me ask you 2 questions
    1) Are you oblivious to what happened in the capital of the nearest country to ours this morning?
    2) Did you see/hear how low they were?

Shut up & get some common sense. If you cant see how abnormally low planes flying around the capital just hours after the bombings happened in London is going to panick people then you need help.

It's been done before.. sheesh... people have short memories...

Isn't this formation flying thing for the Red Bull event that is being advertised in cinemas at the moment?

Yeah I'm wondering that myself... are these dinky little aerobatic light prop aircraft? or big beefy fighter jets?
Get some target reconnaissance skillz like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

If they were jets, then they weren't Irish.
The Irish Air Corps doesn't have any jets.
