As suggested by MercMad - anyone interested in meeting up for an evening? Weekends are precious these days, so how about some weekday evening about 6:00pm?

Selfishly, I nominate Killiney Hill Park car park as the venue, but I'm wide open to suggestions.

    Please post replies here.

Killiney Hill Park is at the top of Killiney/Dalkey hill. Drive into Dalkey from Sandycove, hang a left after MacDonagh's pub and drive to the top of the hill, you'll see an entrance to the park on the left, before Fitzpatricks Killiney Castle Hotel.

I'll be rightly pissed off if ye all meet up in Terenure without me :)

Sounds like an interesting plan !

We do the same in the MX5 "club" - Wednesdays at Strawberry Beds, which usually turns into a run out to the countryside if the evening is fine.

BTW I'll be on the MX5 stand at Terenure - easy to spot, it'll be the only Triumph Stag there ;)

I am up for it too - am getting my new electric aeriel fitted to the Daimler and getting my 'Radiomobile' radio fixed so I can play all the boxes of 8 tracks that came with the car - Glen Cambell, John Devner, Peters & Lee etc :D

Yep - I'd be interested in meeting up someday - But killiney is unreachable at 6 for myself!

Say when & where suits, Tom! I only suggested Killiney as an opening gambit, and I know v-deniso isn't far either.

I'd struggle to keep up with the 850 :)

I dont mind - Maybe somewhere closer to the M50, Easy access for all.

I will be at the american stand on sunday - in the Blue 71 Corvette roadster

how about somewhere like the Spawell and a spin over the mountains towards Johny Foxs' that should be reasonable for anyone southside and the Spawell is off the M50 for any northsiders (do they do classic cars or just maxed micras over there ;-) )

I'll take it easy in the 850 then

blue 71 corvette, blue 71 corvette - got it

Sounds good - nice mix of motorway & country drives. When, though? How's Friday 15th at 7:00pm?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 26 CorvetteTom

mmm - Northside and Micras - Well I'm converted now - but am a ex Northsider and never owned a micra
Did have a Xr3i Escort though - did that qualify!!

    The Spawell sounds good

    Is there many interested
    Billy - What about you?

I just have to watch the weather as Wiper motor not working - a new one is being dispatched from the US, (When they get to it)

15th is Mrs green-bloods birthday, now there are things you can get awy with but... the weather is to be scorching next week, how's about Tuesday evening, thats always a boring nite!!!

yeah, that'll work for me. Tuesday 12th of July. I'll be wearing a sash - haven't decided on the colour yet.

...........I like this idea better TBH. To have a bit of a drive is better than just a meeting so combining the two is ideal !

Fridays dont suit me at all though ! :(

BTW over here on the Northside they DO actually have classic Micras..............they are called Nissan Figaro's :D !

Also thing we should decide on a meeting point for Terenure otherwise we'll miss eachother ! I nominate "greenbloods" red mk1 Mini at 3PM !!

"The biggest weakness of the DS is the engine. It's loud and rough and of a design inherited from the already 21 year old Traction Avant".

Interesting point this - The early DS cars with four cog boxes and the long stroke traction engine had a very high top gear giving just short of 25 mph/1000. Under normal driving conditions you rarely go above 2200rpm and the little old motor just purrs away. After that Citroen appear to have moved up on the revs possibly to gain performance. The last CX I owned was a semi-auto Prestige with a 20 mph/1000 top gear. At 70mph you had to listen to 3500 rpm which was no fun at all. A top cog at about 25 to 27 per 1000 would have eliminated the noise from later DSs and CXs. So if you want a quiet DS, get an old one - or should I say older one!

The meeting sounds good, I wont be able to go this week though as a new top is being convertible hood is to be fitted next week, and i am also waiting for this F******g Wiper Motor!!

Maybe the next one for me,
    See you on sunday?

So - is anyone still up for this after getting frazzled on Sunday? I had my car all clean and then had to go on a family picnic, so I'm up for it.

Spawell car park 7-7:30 tomorrow 12 July 2005, with a drive to Johnny Fox's through the Dublin mountains. Would 8pm be easier? It doesn't get dark until about 10:30 these days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 610 ✭✭✭green-blood

make it 8, I'll be there.

    Cool - 8 it is.

FrankSM, MercMad, CamaroBill are you still up for it? That'd be more than enough.

    Goddarnit!

Just back from two weeks hols (honeymoon - yikes) so late to the thread.
Would love to do a boards meet but this week is out as will be mad in work.

I'd second the Killiney Hill car park - great spot and the drive around Dalkey is great too.
If Spa Well works out, and another meet-up goes ahead that would be my choice!

That said I'd try and make any meet if available... :)

    Enjoy, any who go.

    CHEERS!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,487 ✭✭✭franksm

Think I'll pop along just say hello and kick everyone else's tyre, check how clean your ashtrays are, etc. My car isn't taxed - I'm in the process of re-reg'ing it, and there's a problem with the paperwork, so I don't want to be pulled by the Gards.

Have already been pulled by a Customs/Excise guy at the Tesco fillnig station in Leixlip last week, and then by a biker-cop on the way to Terenure via Phoenix Park yesterday. Am wondering if the two "pulls" aren't related ;-) Anyway, means have to keep a low profile until it's sorted. Will be at the VRO in Tallaght this afternoon, hopefully it'll be in some way sorted...

    Hi guys
I'm a newcomer to the Boards forum, but would love to come along tomorrow night if its still going ahead. I had planned to bring my '72 SL along to the Terenure show, but events conspired against me, so the run tomorrow sounds good as an alternative.
    see you there. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,765 ✭✭✭ds20prefecture

Excellent - welcome Paschcom. 8pm in the Spawell it is.

Just so's we recognize each other, what colour is your car?

Greenblood is in a red Mini 850
Franksm is in a '73 Triumph Stag (I think)
    I'm in a black '72 Citroën DS

    If they're coming:
MercMad is in a white/cream SL
The Atheist is in a blue Fiat Spyder
CamaroBill is in, well, a Camaro!
A friend of mine might be along in his '53 Citroën Traction Avant - it'll be tricky to miss that....
Another friend may come in a Reliant Scimitar GTE, if I can coax him along.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭MercMad

Sorry boys but I'll have to skip tomorrow night ............just too much work this week !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72 ✭✭Paschcom

I've a champagne 350SL - I don't think we'll have much trouble spotting each other in the Spawell carpark! See u at 8.

Well that was fun. I arrived early to find a pristine BMW 2002 Touring waiting - it seems we weren't the only group meeting in the Spawell at 8 :)

Paschcom, CorvetteTom, GreenBlood and myself showed. Great road from the Spawell to Johnny Fox's, somewhat frustrated by the Almera doing 20kmph most whenever the road got twisty.

The cars are great - The condition of GreenBlood's Mini Minor must be seen to be believed. For sheer presence it's difficult to beat the Corvette. Ee left the cars in the car park and watched from a distance and you could see at least 4 groups of people wandering over to drool over the Corvette & the SL. Isn't it strange how convertibles appeal at this time of year :)

Pictures this evening, if I get half an hour. Should we make this semi-regular? First wednesday of every month, or something? Or should we join the non-denominational Blessington club, who meet the second monday of each month?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭MercMad

I'd like to go next time but I have the Mercedes Benz Club meeting on 1st Wednesday or every month !

    Need photos ! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,765 ✭✭✭ds20prefecture

    Wouldn't you like to see a 7.4L Corvette at a Merc Meeting ? :D

We should try to do it again though - when we're sitting in our living room this December looking out at rain rain rain we'll regret not using every good day.

    You name the day!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 26 CorvetteTom

Great night for a drive - Even if it seemed to be a Italian Job drive, (Twisty Bumpy roads in a american aint great).
Better to drive them and enjoy them then to just think about them sitting in the garage,
I enjoyed it and hope to do it again soon.
    Tom

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72 ✭✭Paschcom

Agreed, it was good fun last night. Such a change to be able to take the top off and not have to wear an overcoat.
I say we should have such a run maybe every fortnight - say second and fourth Wednesday, and make use of the Summer weather - otherwise if we do it once a month, it'll be winter before we know it, and my hard top will be back on again.
Mercmad - where are the MB club meetings held - I'd be interested in joining up - I definitely need some tips on tuning - or preferably somebody who can do it right!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,487 ✭✭✭franksm

Shyte... sorry I couldn't make it, some crap going on here at work (Micros0ft is rapidly turning into Microshaft, methinks) which just meant I wasn't going to be near the Spawell in time.

Wonder if anyone would be interested in "tech days" as a meeting also ? We do that in the MX5 club - meet up at someone's place (whoever has the biggest driveway) and help out with things such as bleeding brakes, fitting brake pads, changing oil, changing timing belts etc. All good fun - I have been taking my Stag to recent ones though, to the chagrin of the other MX5ers

    http://www.mx5ireland.com/gallery/tech_5.htm

On my to-do list: changing out the alternator; hunting down the reason for my non-flashing indicators; fixing the convertible roof/frame; replacing dash central console; replacing steering-rack bushes and track-rod ends

cheers DS20, I can now tell everyone I have driven F1 technology - well a semi-auto Citroen DS anyway, that really was one of the highlights of my car driving career, maybe i'll get to drive 8 times my cars capacity next time!!!

sorry about the narrow roads Tom and I enjoyed overtaking you on the motorway :-)

must be done again - soon

    franksm wrote:

I did a DS one last year - more of a technical weekend, really. It was super, and I'll probably try to organise another this year. I don't know how well a generic one would work for all classics - the cars are too different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,487 ✭✭✭franksm

Yeah, saw the DS20 pics --> fantastic !

Tech days usually turn into a tool-sharing and elbow-grease-sharing day anyway, most people come prepared with all the bits and fluids they need to add or remove from their cars. Plus you get to share someone else's expertise. I'm good with suspension, someone else is good with soft-tops... you get to do stuff and get help on other things. Anyway... something to think about.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,558 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dades

Couldn't make last night but sounded like the start of something good.

Would be up for the next one with some advance notice. Wednesday's are good for me too. Twisty runs are top of the list but I also like the idea of tech days. My tech knowledge is waaay limited. I'd especially be up for a gasket and valves session!

And yeah - let's make hay while we have the sun and while we're young. :D

You lads really had the polish out the night before! :D

    Nice jamjars all.

No way - I've seen that Spider, Atheist. Are you trying to pretend you don't go out and polish her every night with a chamois made from a thousand philistine foreskins? :)

A clean engine bay means a car is not being driven enough. Well that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it, like LHM sticks to every available surface of my engine bay ;)

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,558 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dades

Are they stocking them in Halfords now?

Maybe you're right about the sign of a well driven car.
Even though I think there's more oil ON my engine block than IN it.
Sure thats what shiny hoods are for.
