Ireland's internet service providers will not oppose attempts by the music industry to uncover the identities of individuals accused of illegal file-sharing.....

Would the Data Protection Acts not prevent them from disclosing any information about the activities of their customers?

From a legal standpoint they are breaking the law, so it basically means that if a file sharer is brought to court and the correct channels where not observed by the ISPs then any court action would fail as it breaches the Data protection act and several other smaller laws.

I think the ISP's are only trying to scare people away from filesharing to get IRMA off their back.

With the way solicitors can find loopholes these days....if we ever see one of the 17 accused downloaders I will be surprised!!!

All Eircom and BT are saying is that the will not oppose any aplications for court orders to disclose evidance relating to a crime. And why should they?
