So you mean the "London 2012" balloons and newsletters that I got in Trafalger Square last year won't be unique and lead to me becoming mega rich in my Autumn years then? :(

    Heh, congratulations to London.

Having been in Sydney in 2000, I can heartily recommend being in an olympic city during their course. Its a good bit in advance, but I plan on being there.

Well so long as they build the stadiums (stadia?) and dont end up like Athens.

Ohhh, I'd love to have seen Chiracs face when the news came through. I bet London won by one vote and that came from Finland.

Beckham won't know his "manor" in a few years time!

Good news for Irish sport. We should make a real bid financially to get behind our elite athletes, starting now. It's good to see that cretin Chirac getting a kick in the teeth.

That's great news, should be some spin offs for Ireland aswell. It's about time we hosted something like this. The Rugby World Cup would be a good start.

Given some of our sporting facilities, the best we might be able to do now would be the world tiddlywinks championships. :) Things are improving, but we have a long way to go, but we should aim for it.

London having the games will benefit us in lots of ways, so I suppose it is a good thing for Ireland too.

We already co-held the Rugby world cup in 1999 along with England, Scotland, Wales and France. How could anyone even comprehend Ireland hosting a major world event like this. It would be about as entertaining as funland on Craggy Island. We haven't got Stadia, Infrastructure, we struggle to cope with everyday life not a mind The Olympic Games, I'm rather disapointed London are hosting it, i'd rather see New York host it, it would be a fitting tribute to the City after it's struggle to rebuild shattered live after 9/11 I can see the british making a huge hames of it, and it will go over budget twice i predict.

First of all i am not Jesus, I am insulted that you referred to me as the founder of the biggest lie in history.

Pride in what a rip-off nation, full of corruption and injustice.

We may be rich yet our government acts like we are one of the african countries whose plight live8 recently highlighted.

We as country will never advance on the bigger world stage we are a nation of drunks for petes sake.

Does anyone think for the football tournie there will be a GB team? I certainly hope so and hopefully the Republic of Ireland will enter aswell. GB vs Ireland... now that would be class!

I saw a quote from the FA boss, whatever his name is, on the beeb's website saying that they may try and find some way of getting the 'home nations' to be able to take part now. What he had in mind wasn't clear though.

a GB team would be England wearing different colours, lets be honest.

A guy at work looked up from his OIRISH Sun this afternoon when he heard the news and said the same thing. What a hypocrite.

If it annoys you so much why don't you form your own terrorist group and starting bombing London?

Didn't really mind which of the three European cities got it to be honest - they all had a great package put together. Well done to London...it looks like Paris will probably have to wait until 2020 now - a bit unfortunate I must admit.

Having said that, the London video was nothing short of magnificent.

P.S. Netwhizkid - New York? You're having a laugh. They had no real stadium plans - that's the first issue there.

Perhaps you should just stay away from all serious/political matters - obviously an opinion can't be wrong but - goodness - you're really trying hard to cross that line, judging by some of your recent posts.
