    1) Good place for second hand guitars?
    2) Can't decide on a second guitar. If I post a list of interests and what I'm looking for, could someone help me?
    3) Looking a circuit breaker cable so my guitar doesn't pop everything I plug it in, preferably a Planet Wave one. Do they sell these in Limerick?
    4) Need something to use to power my RAT and Moon Phaser, preferably an adaptor so I can use a normal daisy chain. Do they sell these in Limerick?
    5) Where to get a Digitech Whammy? How much? Is the Boss pitch shifter better, what use can I make of the intelligent harmoniser?
    6) Where to get a Boss CE-2? How much?

    Thanks.

    www.chrisguitars.com
    Yes
Probably, but probably cheaper on net
probably, but may as well buy off the net, easier
Whammy is probably about 200 off thomann inc shippin afaik
eBay would be your best best, cheaper.

edit: damn you feylya!! :D

Woo, I win! One to nothing.

    :D

And yes, if you're buying anything from Thomann, get everything from Thomann. It'll be cheaper.

How do I pay? Paypal or bank transfer? Bank transfer would be a lot easier for me.

I won't be buying all it once though ;P

probably getting a new guitar for christmas, unless I find something nifty. I'd prefer to go used almost...

Steamboat music in Limerick can get in the Whammy for me, how much do you think it will be though? I just realised I so got ripped off on a Digidelay, they cost like $100 I paid 170, but everything else there is pretty much normal price, and they have a Bad Monkey for 60 euros! So I don't know.

Thomann accepts bank draft and credit card.
eBay accepts various payments as does Chris.
Buying all your effects from Thomann in one go would be a good idea to save on shipping (€20 every time)

Damn, no CE-2 on Thomann. I have about 4 ways of getting Chorus already, but none of them analog.

i can't say how much it will be, but to be honest, it's Ireland, you'll pay ALOT more than you will abroad.

For pedals such as Boss, your best bet would be eBay i think, you could get something like the CE2 for about 50/60 euro inc shipping, they're built like tanks so second hands ones should be fine.

As guitars go, you should probably stick to chrisguitars, i wouldn't recommend such a big purchase using eBay for the first time.

If you go the chris guitars option, you can pay by paypal, but you'll need a credit card anyway. I'm gonna presume you don't have a CC, so bank transfer would be more suitable, however that could prove expensive.

Here ya go, a really old CE-2, but should work fine.

    Whammy:

You'll always get stuff cheaper from US sellers, just keep in mind the shipping and customs, even a Boss single pedal could cost up to $20-$30 to ship. But if you keep looking you'll find a bargain.

Thinking about maybe a 7 string...

    any suggestions?

I don't listen to much music with 7 string stuff (except some Muse which uses one), so I kind of want to do stuff I haven't heard much of before. I was afraid of being a bit too Nu-Metal, but I really love down tunes stuff, and I'd really have to buy a guitar that takes thicker strings and lower tunings better anyway, so I may as well get a 7 string.

Yep they stopped making the CE-2s a long time ago, 1982 I believe! Thomann indeed :p

Like others have said, 50-60 quid on ebay. They're not that rare.

    Jesus, 1982!?

    I'm behind the times.

How do the newer Boss Chorus pedals stand up to it?

I don't know to be honest, but I know the CE-2 is the most highly regarded Boss chorus pedal.

The DC-2 Dimension C pedal is also an analog chorus by Boss. Has 4 preset sounds... Supposed to sound very nice but would cost about 3 times more than a CE-2.

    http://www.bossarea.com

    Have a look on that site at the CE-2, CE-3, DC-2, DC-3, CE-5 and CH-1

www.harmony-central.com has user reviews too which might be helpful.

yea ebay and chrisguitars for 2nd hand stuff...

i prefare the super shifter to the whammy, its my fav little pedal, it has more features and its smaller, its a pretty fun pedal too.... the harmonizer on it is great, the detune and pitch shifter mode work with harmonies too, the harmonizer mode is good if u want to use a particular key...

check out ibanez's for 7 strings, they have a low end one the rg7321 and a higher end one - rg1257 and of corse the K7's which are a bit more $$$

Most chorus' are fine, i hear digitech make a nice one too, ive a boss ch-1 and it does the job nicely, get some nice clean tones of it bright but not to bright and warm....

u can get those planet waves leads in most places, but i have one too they work great

as for the adapter, can u just get a normal adapter? u can always go for the boss one....

What other companies make 7 Strings? I'd like to get something that isn't an Ibanez. It'll probably cost a bit less since it will be something of a "Wait, that company makes 7 strings?" sort of affair. I saw a 7 String Washburn that was much better value than most Ibanez guitars.

I'm not looking for Korn type stuff, so I don't need a guitar that's built to constantly handle low A tuning. I just really want to be able to be very lazy with tunings and use a Capo instead where I can :) Though there's a Muse song or two I would need drop A for I think.

Check out Schecter Guitars. You can get them second hand on ebay fairly easily.

Dean make fairly nice 7 string guitars, esp the evo model, and the price is right aswell! Check Me

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭Rozie

I like the Dean Evo special a lot... it doesn't go with my on stage colour scheme though XD I'll need to find a different coloured one, I'm sure they exist.

I NEED something with vintage Single coil sounds as well though, something different from the stock 7 string sound.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,635 CMod ✭✭✭✭Ravelleman

Look at me. I have a 5 way switch - I can get single coily type sounds too...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭Rozie

Look at me :3 Aw, now it has a soul it makes me like it, though I was trying to avoid getting another black guitar XD

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭david

That Schecter is sweeeet. I want it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,635 CMod ✭✭✭✭Ravelleman

Indeed. Schecters are sweet. I prefer Fernandes as my Korean guitar maker of choice though. :D

How much does it cost to get a guitar repainted?

I like the idea of having a purple blackjack.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Couple of hundred wouldn't be uncommon afaik.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭Rozie

Guess I'm stuck with black then. All the guitars I want are black :P But I'd rather have a funky coloured one.

Can I hear sound samples of the Blackjack anywhere?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭Rozie

I think I'll get the Washburn 7 string, but do you think it's stage worthy? It only has stock pickups, but I hear it's great.

How easy is it to change pickups?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

A Squier Strat is stage worthy tbh.

It's incredibly simple to change pickups if you're handy with a soldering iron and are electronically minded. If not, it's not terribly expensive to get them changed for you.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭Rozie

I've never used a soldering iron before, but I'm okay with electronics, I've opened up pedals, worked opened consoles and all that.

Is it hard to learn to solder?

Do you think it's worth getting the Washburn and changing one of the pickups then?

If the Humbuckers are really good, I may swap it into my Pacifica, the humbucker on that is a bit stale.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Na, it's not too hard to solder but it can be tricky in a guitar, considering there's not a lot of space.

Have you a link to the Washburn?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭Rozie

I could find it for pretty cheap. I may buy it with my own money in a few months and get pickups and an amp for Xmas.

What do you think? I adore the red one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,989 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Ah soldering on a guitar is pretty easy, just practice desoldering components from an old PCB or something. Try do it quickly without heating the component too much.

Right, i need single coil sounds, how hard/expensive is coil tapping?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

First thing you need is a four-conductor humbucker pickup that doesn't sound gay when tapped (there aren't that many). Then you need a push/pull pot.
    About €100 should cover it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭Rozie

    Damn, that's quite a lot.

The main reason I need it is because the Fuzz Factory sound SO Much better on single coils it's incredible.

Unless there's a 7 string humbucker that sounds like a single coil, I'll have to give this guitar a miss for now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Lose the Fuzz Factory then. Humbuckers are the way forward for distortion IMO. That Washburn is a nice looking guitar, I'm not sure how great a SD Distortion pickup will sound tapped but both those pickups (on the red one anyway) are four conductor. I picked up a LTD 7 string recently which I must say I'm quite impressed with.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭Rozie

Loose the Fuzz Factory!? Have you ever even played an FF? It cost me like, 200 euros, as much as this guitar costs. No way am I loosing the FF. It's the main part of my sound right now.

I need to find a sound that will work with my FF. It's my favourite distortion ever. I have a funny feeling that it's due to it being in the neck position as much as it being a single coil though. I'll have to ask Zvex about it.

Tbh, i think you should work the other way around. If you have a solid foundation, then you should use the FF merely as seasoning, to spice up things. Or use it to drive your amp further into clip, but don't rely on a single pedal to define your whole tone.
