I've somewhat of a problem in work at the moment with my line manager, who's on a power trip and bossing me around all the time.
she is constantly interrupting me while I'm working asking me allsorts of things that are non work related, even when I'm taking to clients on the phone
she'd approach my desk and talk over me as I'm on the phone..
but what really gets my goat up, is the fact she gets me to run reports that are pointless...which takes me away from my own work.

just to give you an idea of how she'd approach me and her attitude:
I'd be doing important research for one of our the clients and she'd approach me to run a report, I'd ask can this report wait, as I'm up to my eyes at the moment,
she would reply no run it now, I'd reply to her I'm in the middle of something can it wait until I've finished? she'd replay, no I need this doing now whatever your doing can wait this takes priority
I'd then say, I really need finish this as the client requires the information as soon as possible, I'd appreciate some leeway, "no do this now" .....is the answer.
this is happening nearly ever day now, and I'm falling behind on my own work cos of it, not to mention the fact that when I hand her theses reports that she requests
she hasn't a clue how to read them.
plus - theirs fact that I'm not the one who should be running theses reports, there supposed to come from another section, and before you ask, I've told her this more times then I can count, she just keeps saying - you do it.
as she's my line manager, I cant refuse, I've even went to her boss, this was about two mouths ago, and explained what's going on, He sad he'd talk to her, but that was two mouths ago and still know change.

I was thinking of writing to the union, to arrange a meeting, and try a get a transfer, cos I'm so pi**ed off going in to work each day having to face this bitch..
the only think is I don't know if I'll get a transfer, and if I do I could be waiting a long time for it...

the other thing i was thinking of doing is taking long term sick, just to get away from her..

i dont really want to stay at home doing nutting, but it would be better then having to putting up with this.

if anyone has gone through this and came out the other side, i'd realy love to here from you..

I don't know what i'm going to do.

I agree, go to your boss, but just one thing, whenever you are seeing the boss about a potential union matter, bring someone else with you as a witness, they can be the union rep if you want to make it official, or you can bring the union rep as a witness and state clearly at the start of the meeting they are not there in an official capacity.

Either way, the boss will get the idea that this is going to go further if (s)he does not do something about it. You have already reported the matter, unless you were on your own then and there is no record of it, in which case (s)he can deny you ever did - hence the importance of bringing someone with you this time.

Do you have to fill in timesheets where you work? As long as you fill these in accurately, if a problem does arise with a customer due to delays in handling his/her issue, the ultimate responsibility will be your boss'. If not, keep an accurate account yourself of what you do each day. You sound quite conscientious, but you have to put things into perspective. It's only a couple of customers and their business is unimportant compared to your well-being and peace of mind. Just do what your boss tells you and let her deal with any consequences. It can be incredibly annoying to have a muppet in charge of you, but it's only a job. She'll probably hassle you less if you stop resisting her and just do what she says. Apply for a transfer by all means, as you don't sound as though you have much job satisfaction, but don't let her defeat you by forcing you into taking sick leave or quitting.

I assume you have some sort of performance evaluation from time to time? Assuming its your immediate boss who does this evaluation, you'll fare better if you come across as someone who does what's asked of her rather than some who objects constantly. If, during such an evaluation, it transpires that customers are complaining about delays with dealing with their cases, calmly point out that you're aware of this and hve pointed it out repeatedly, but in the end there's not much you can do.

my advice would be to so something it obvious that you take your work v seriously and this is more than likely because you enjoy doing it
take a witness or better yet since you have already made your oral complaint the next step is writing it down keep a copy as prove for your union if the need arises and make sure it is handed to your boss

    best of luck
don't let this woman bully you

if you're on a permanent contract its very hard to fire you so say it out to her. "It's not my job, I'm working." And then just don't do it. You can't get in trouble for not doing sopmeone elses work

In the meantime while you're going through the proper channels/speaking to the union etc....

Couldn't you just pass on these requests for reports to the other section that is supposed to run them? Then when your boss asks, just say you've asked for the report to be run! If your boss keeps asking, you just keep saying 'yes, I've requested that report, it's on it's way'. They should soon get bored of asking you all the time!
