    Evening all.
I installed a sata hd a few months ago and had alot of bother with it. basically it wouldnt appear in My Computer. So i cleared the cmos and it was fine. The machine was overclocked at the time.

The sata drive has been working fine since.

But today i overclocked by increasing the fsb and, bang the hd dissapeard again.!!
Even if i only increase the fsb by 1, the drive goes awol. Then when i run it at stock speed it reappears.

Any ideas how to stop this strange behaviour?

    Abit IS7 mobo
    2.6 P4
    1 gig ram.

Used to happen to me on my mobo without an agp/pci lock. FSB too high = SATA controller freezing

you need a mobo that locks your PCI bus to 33mhz, otherwise as you push your FSB up, your AGP & PCI come up as well. usually leading to nasty data loss!

Dead on, but the first thing to go is the SATA RAID controller then the southbridge

    Thanks for the replies lads.
So I need to lock the pci/agp while I increase the fsb.
Not sure if I can do that with my mobo.
    Ah well.
