I have a piece of spyware on my laptop, identified by ad-aware as
    ' m?config.exe '
Ad-aware cannot delete it, even in safe mode. The problem is that when i go to the location where the file should be, i cant find it. It isnt there, or else its hidden. Anyone have the same prob or any possible solutions?
If the worst comes to the worst, does reformatting your computer delete spyware for certain?

Any help would be sweet. Thanx

msconfig is a microsoft program. If you look somewhere and it's not visible, it may be hidden. What folder is it supposedly in?

To view hidden files / folders, in windows explorer check tools->options->view

    (it's in there).

Is that second character actually a question mark or is it just not displaying properly in my browser?

There is a piece of spyware called MSConfig as Windows MSConfig. I used this to remove it off my system. Worked a treat

Download and install Ewido security suite here

    http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

    Update the signature files here

    http://download.ewido.net/ewido-signatures-full-20050704.exe

Then run a full scan in Safe mode. Works great.

    Thanx Odie,

    Will try it later

yea its m?config.exe, not msconfig. I use msconfig to personalise my start up and stuff. but this is obviously named to go unnoticed. Suprised no-one else has heard of it... Its a total pain in the ass.

if it's windows xp it's work going into the Temp directory of the user ... usualy

    c:\document and sesstins\name of user\local applications\temp.

do this is safe mode and delete everything, while in safe mode, if you feel up to it, check the RunOnce and RUN regestry entrys , it should be there also, delete it.

spybot - search and destroy is the one of the best progs out there alongside ad- aware for removing and detecting spyware. so give it a go. Ive heard microsoft antisypware is alright but i haven't done any research.
