That's a bit of a surprise isn't it? The BBC are speculating that his Ireland career may be over because of the move.

    BBC link

    Awesome!

At this rate we'll be lucky to have a squad for 7s by the time the HEC rolls around. :(

didn't he just say in the paper he's finished with ireland and irish rugby was my point. isn't much speculation if he's more or less stated it directly.

Well looks like an extra munster player in for the ireland team when the international text come round in the Autumn.

Byrne imo was kinda past it anyway in terms of the ireland selection.

and good riddance is what i say...time to let new players have a chance.

he's 31 isn't he? I don't think Frankie is that good either? b.J. is quite good, don't think he's in the same league as the other international hookers. I think SB is a significant loss to the squad, but we did have to lose him sooner or later, so earlier the better. just going to confirm how screwed we are for top front players development.

Yea the article was written by Shane Byrne and he pretty much said he's done with irish rugby, there was no ambiguity.

Byrne is 34 anyway. Too old for the next World cup. Bernard Jackman has moved to leinster this season. He could be a good player.
