Is there a boards.ie IRC server, and if so, whats the address? I've asked on the CS board because more people on this board seem to use it (or refer to it in any case).

Does the chat link at the top of the main boards.ie page not work for anyone else?

Moved to Admin board as it has no relevance to CS.

Its on the way, we just need to get the bots put into #boards.ie.

    Cloud?

That would be an interesting integration alright... announcements of changes in UBB on an IRC server wink.gif

Maybe that should be #boards.ie-announce or something like that (where nobody gets a 'voice' except for the bot) with #boards.ie being just a general discussion forum.

I look forward to seeing the boards.ie IRC server in action smile.gif It'd certainly be better than Undernet in it's current form... ooh- you could have a channel for every board (like #after-hours for example) with each mod being an op on the # wink.gif (although I'm sure you're probably planning something along those lines anyway [...?] )

    Zoop.

Gah, I don't like the idea of 30 odd chatrooms - one for each board!!!
    Too many open channel windows.

    Like the Bot thing though.

Nice1 Hobbes. I've seen it done before, but in the case of UBB it needed an IRC bot on running off that server - I'm sure theres some way around it. I'll have a look and see if I still have the code on disc somewhere...

I think if boards gets and IRC channel they should use Quakenet, since lots of boards users already use quakenet smile.gif

Only those who are online gamers. I, for example, am not one (because of the price of Internet access... hint hint wink.gif) - while I do play FPS and other games on a standalone PC and networks (occasionally), I don't do it on the net - and there's a lot of people who don't bother with gaming at all and are just here for the discussion (... mad, that - I know smile.gif )...

Myself I prefer the suggestion of a unique IRC server for Boards.ie. Confining it to the realm of Quakenet (which is primarily FOR gamers) might, in fact, scare off some people.

I hate quakenet, I would appreciate a server where the hostmask is hidden/reversed (like irc.stratics.com where everyone elses hostmask appears as your own to yourself - messed up any clone detectors though smile.gif). I find quakenet very unsecure and have been hacked via it many times.

It's just a tail, but I'm sort of attached to it.
