Solicitation?

Does boards.ie have a policy on solicitation? Although the current hosting solicitation on the tech boards isn't too bad, it's something I really don't like to see on forums. I sell hosting myself, but I have never posted on a forum actively looking for business, I don't think it's right. Peer review, cool, but not digging for business.

    Just a thought.

c'mon, the guy asked where could he get cheap hosting and he got what he asked for.
that cant be classed as solicitation, maybe if one of the hosts started the thread then i agree with you.

Asking and getting a reply is ok in my book.

Starting the thread with what is basically an ad is not really on in my book.

I've noticed that one crowd were opening an account, posting a question and then kindly answering it with another account. A quick check of the email addresses gave them away.

I suppose they thought exploiting a loophole would save them...

    *sigh*

    You mean like this:

I assume that kind of thing is ok in the 'For Sale' section though, yeah?

Is there a need for a cross over between the work and Technology boards for sole traders / small companies to be given a helping hand (I admit I was made self employed last month).

Too many freaks, not enough circuses.

Dragging this back from the dead

Loads of people keep posting about not being able to find a job

    DeVore,

If I start a thread saying there's jobs going where I am (there isn't but there has been and will be) would that be a problem???

No problem on the work board, and I guess not on the tech board either if they are tech jobs.

HOWEVER if you work for a recruitment company I would have a problem.

One is community helping community, the other is corporate exploiting community...

Perhaps, a directory of services could be set up, a sort of A - Z of services that boards members offer through their respective professions. Budding web developers / designers could put links to their on-line portfolios etc.

I think that it would be a natural extension of the virtual cummunity that has developed on Boards.ie

I can tell you now I'm not

I would of course be hoping for a healthy referral fee from my co. but would really be posting out of the goodness of my heart wink.gif

How about a "Services Offered" board in Classifieds, with any obvious non-community 'solicitors' wink.gif 12-clicked. Restrict it too sole traders and small companies. I know drawing the line would be difficult - but perhaps limit the number of topics to one per person.
