    Hi all

what im trying to do is merge all the drivers etc from a dell oem xp home cd
with a standard copy of xp pro (legitimate) w/sp2 already there.

I've followed several guides for addy sata controller drivers etc individually
but these have not worked when i tried to add other stuff from the dell cd

burning the finshed thing and getting the files on to pc is the easy part adding them in correctly is the main issue.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

    Cheers

ohhhh that sounds hard. I don't envy you in that task at all.

Easier method might be downloading the drivers individually from Dell's site, then slipstreaming using nLite.

There's also a program that will pull drivers from your current windows installation, dont know what it's called though.

I tried to do this with my Sony restore disk, but I didn't get it to work. Let me know if you get it working, because would be handy. I've been told you can use your Dell windows key with any other XP SP2 CD as long as its the same type, IE home, OEM etc. Haven't tried it myself. Generally I haven't had any problems installing SP2 on a clean XP install. It just takes a bit longer to install, and then all the latest drivers etc.

what drivers are you trying to slipstream? Unless you're going to be reinstalling alot, then you're better off installing the components after.

If its for a sata/raid then the drivers cannot be slipstreamed (this is to do with how windows loads up its setup routine, it uses predefined drivers, and not ones within the actual windows install), and you need to press f6 to install the controller from floppy during setup.

If you are reinstalling alot then nLite would be the best way, but you're far better off either going to each manufacturers site and getting the latest driver, or if its a dell only piece of hardware, get it from dell.com, the ones shipped with dell systems are usually very old, and missing functionality.

Yeah astrofool, you can slipstream RAID/SATA drivers. just click on the drivers in nlite and then click slipstream...

You can do it manually too with notepad editing the .sif file and all that jazz, but who could be bothered with that.
