You can get a nicely tricked out Dell Inspiron 6000 for less than that (with the special offers, etc) instead...

Dell laptop's are pretty good value...unlike some of their desktops with proprietary components...which nake upgradeing very expensive.

Well... I am putting them out there as a comparison to a Dunnes Stores laptop for crying out loud!

Still, yes, I hate DELL as much as the next guy (and hey, I worked for them years back, so they are not on my fave list) but their lappies are very good technically (always thought the design was boring and bland mostly), but it's very hard to beat their pricing.

I picked up an Inspiron 9100 off their factory outlet a few months back, with specs that would have easily cost me around the 2K mark elsewhere, for 1200 so...

Has anyone taken Dunnes up on this offer lately? I am seriously considering it but I am hearing mixed reports..has anyone bought one lately?

I would not be using it for gaming or anything...just some small scale programming and messin like that.

It is a great price but will the concumer be paying the real price a year or so down the line??

Well, at that price you can afford to take the risk that it'll be a doorstop in 2 years time. Better that than buying a 3k laptop that's useless in 4 years.

True Trojan, good point. I reckon when I do decide to get it I will discover that they are all gone or something!

Does anyone know can ya get the dunnes laptop with a extended guarantee?

I'm not sure of that. To be honest with U, I found it very difficult to get any sort of decent info on the machine...I had to hunt down a manager to get a list of the specs on the machine (not on the empty boxes on display). They all seemed fairly clueless on it all...this may either be an indicator that they don't want to admit how poor it is or it could mean they honestly know jack about laptops in general...and seeing that they are not truely IT specialists I am inclined to go for the latter!

They probably just don't have a clue.

Why not ring them? Maybe even try their IT dept, they may know more about it than the sales staff :)
