I would much appreciate some help on this matter! A new rig we just built has been infected with a horrible virus we cannot destroy for the life of us. It changed the desktop background to black saying warning your computer has been infected and when you press the link it sends you to anti-virus-gold.com. We cannot run adaware, install software and even when we re-install windows it hangs on the formatting process PLEASE if anyone got this can they help us???

    I had something similar.
I finially fixed it at about 2 in the moring so I'm not sure what actually fixed the problem
    I think that
    My browser had been hikacked.
I ran a program called Hijackthis which helped me remove it.
If you check your registry do a search for the webpage that you keep getting sent to, it's probably been put into your IE registries.
You can remove these entries but they'll probably come back

Though I had just rin adware + a nirus scan in Safemode which seamed to find some things that had been missed when the operating system was in normalmode.

Someone who knows what there talking about can probably help more

You may not want to, but a proper format may be the best option. And if you haven't already, make a partition for windows, and other stuff.

Thanks very much for the help. God help anyone who gets it and has crucial information on their drive. I resorted to deleting everything that came up on hijack this and then i managed to re-install windows! It picked up the virus coz i never installed anti-virus software on the new rig and someone else was surfing dirt on it.
