    I have 512k BB with Wanadoo.fr. Unlimited.
    Consistant speeds of 640kbps.
    PB Easynote laptop.
I am thinking of a wifi connection using a Vivanco PCMCIA card 802.11g
Will it be slower or is it worth the effort ?

You shouldn't notice any difference in speed.
The transfer rate between the card and the router will 54mbps which is a lot faster than your BB connection will ever be.

    Hagar,

Yeah you wont feel the sting of wifi until you have a 5/10mbit connection.

I feel sick....€34,90 for first 6 months and €44,90 a month after you can get a 18Mbit connection....!!!

    Thanks guys for the info.

I live about 3k from the town centre on top of a hill so at the moment that's the fastest I can get. However local upgrades are planned so I hope to get up to 8mb within a few months.

Wanadoo supplied an ethernet modem for €1 and I was online within 24 hours of ordering. An electrical storm blew my laptop port so Wanadoo generously replaced the modem with a USB version for €1. I don't leave it plugged in overnight anymore.

    Eircom are you listening...

Off topic - you should see the view from the top of the hill. :D
