Sky have outbid RTE for Irish Heineken cup rights!

RTÉ will get some delayed coverage and highlights!

Thats more of a TV3 deal, but anywho... does RTÉ,

not get first choice for irish rights because Heineken

    Cup isnt a national affair?

I think sky probably realised they could sell more dishes/subs in ireland and with setanta on the horizon in ireland they probalby said they would increase the money paid for the competition provided they got exclusive irish live rights as well.

This is bad news. I am a staunch Munster rugby supporter and have always enjoyed the RTE coverage. I don't have Sky and don't intend getting it. Another sporting competition lost to Subscription TV.

Disappointing. It does leave rugby in a bit of predicament as it will have a lack of exposure on terrestrial tv now. Now that the Celtic League is off TG4, and the Heineken off RTE it only leaves the Six Nations being broadcast live. What was the source of the info on this so we can read more?
